Kids in the Hall was a popular Canadian sketch comedy show. The show consisted of sketches and monologues, usually in character though sometimes as themselves. Most of the parts were played by the same five actors who made up The Kids In The Hall troupe which also performs stage shows. Although they have occasionally split to pursue other projects, the line up has always been Dave Foley, Mark McKinney, Bruce McCulloch, Kevin McDonald and Scott Thompson. As all the actors are male, female parts were usually played by the actors in women's clothes, although Neve Campbell and Nicole de Boer appeared in minor roles early in their careers.

Recurring Characters

The show featured dozens of characters over the course of it's five seasons. Most sketches featured characters unique to that sketch, but there were also a number of recurring characters.

Head Crusher (McKinney)

Head Crusher
Head Crusher
The infamous head crusher, called Mr Tyzik, would spy people between his thumb and index finger and crush their heads. He often set himself up on a folding chair, crushing people's heads as they walked by, declaring "I'm crushing your head, I'm crushing your head". He spoke in a slighty high pitched voice with possibly Eastern European accent. He head crushes with a great deal of enthusiasm, though in one sketch he feels remorse for crushing a kids head, just because he wanted to be a business man. Most people ignore his efforts, but in one sketch people do take exception to it and he requires physical therapy for the beating.

Buddy Cole (Thompson)

Buddy Cole
Buddy Cole
Buddy Cole is an openly gay, opinionated and flamboyant character. Cole's sketches are usually monologues, delivered in the gay bar owned by Buddy.  He often talks about his life, name dropping celebrities as he does, as well as talking about the gay community. His life's adventures are bizarre and outrageous, much like Cole himself.  The celebrities Buddy Cole knows include Kurt Cobain and Queen Elizabeth II, who is also played by Thompson in other sketches not involving Buddy.

Gavin (McCulloch)

Gavin
Gavin
Gavin is a young boy who talks, endlessly, about everything. His ramblings often include bizarre, possibly fictional, stories about himself and the people he knows. This usually irritates other characters, even trying the patience of two door step evangelists (McKinney and Foley). His mother was played by McKinney, though she was killed off and Thompson played his step mother. McDonald played his father, an alcoholic deadbeat who shows little interest in Gavin.
