Ernest B. Schoedsack Director previously directed The Most Dangerous Game

After a film crew discovers an island with long extinct dinosaurs and a beast known as Kong, they manage to capture the massive ape. Once back in New York, it escapes, climbs the newly built Empire State Building and fights biplanes.

Trivia:

Originally King Kong had a scene after the men fell down the chasm after clinging to a giant log, which involved giant grotesque insect-like creatures killing them. This scene was removed from all future King Kong releases because the scene was so shocking at the time.

Quote: Carl Denham

Oh, no, it wasn't the airplanes. It was Beauty killed the Beast.
