• During the filming of Miracle, Russell took a pay cut so the 800-1,000 extras cast as fans at the hockey games could have hot meals rather than packed lunches.
• Auditioned for the title role in 1980's Flash Gordon.
• Russell's character in Soldier speaks only 79 words over the course of the 99 minute movie.
• While filming Miracle, Russell, who is right handed, taught himself to write left handed to more convincingly portray his character.
• Kurt was Sylvester Stallone's first choice for the role of Church in the Expendables, but he declined. The part eventually went to Bruce Willis.
