The heroine in Stieg Larsson's award-winning "Millennium series".
Lisbeth Salander is a girl in her twenties, but has the look of a younger girl. She is, to put it lightly, different. Extremely intelligent, she also exudes a hostility that keeps people away and does things her own way at all times--it's the only way she knows how to live. With both her parents gone, she has been kicked around to different "legal guardians" and is considered a "ward of the state". She lives alone in a small apartment.
Lisbeth works for Milton Security as a professional investigator, and is by far the most talented person working there despite her young age. In reality she is a master computer hacker, which allows her access to an incredible wealth of information in the blink of an eye. She has no trouble tracking criminal data and hacking into private networks. She sees her job as a fascinating hobby, but not a serious career path.
Lisbeth has a photographic memory, a fact she shares with very few people.
It becomes increasingly clear that Lisbeth has been the victim of some extremely traumatic events in the past, and has endured abuse on multiple occasions. As a result, she is alienated from most of society, and seems to prefer it that way. Learning to take care of herself from a young age, she is quick to retaliate if anyone attempts to exploit her--a trait that has gotten her into trouble more than once.
