Well, this is an interesting situation we have here. The trailer for Looper was just released and with it came a warning from director Rian Johnson. He went to Twitter today to say:

"If you're already set on seeing Looper, I'd avoid any trailers from here on out. They don't ruin the movie, but they tip a few little things that are fun to discover in the context of the movie."

"Just to clarify - I approved all the trailers, they're great and they won't ruin anything big. But the small things they tip are fun to discover in the movie."

I find this incredibly odd, because why would you ever approve of a trailer that you don't actually want people to watch? However, I do believe trailer-mania has gotten a bit out of control with the 5-10 trailers we get for a blockbuster.

Personally, I thought this looked pretty damn awesome and reminded me of first watching the trailer for Inception. Yes, I'm sure I know more than I could have now, but I can't see anything that will ruin the experience of seeing it for the first time. I'm gonna refrain from saying much else, in case anybody does not want to watch and would just like to go see it. So...watch at your own risk, but if you are on the fence at all, do it.

Well I watched it this morning without that knowledge, so now I feel a bit sad. But regardless, the movie looks great. Brick was fantastic, Brothers Bloom was okay (but had an amazing cameos by two Brick stars). And though this movie is being released in September, the usual dump for movie studios, I feel much optimistic because Drive was also a September release last year.

Really curious to what the extra footage China is getting though for this film (because it's partially funded by a Chinese company).

After watching the trailer I don't feel like I was spoiled on anything. So future JGL and present(?) JGL aren't getting along not a surprising idea.

I did get a better idea of the world though. I thought it was still kinda normal looking maybe even 80's esque. Nope it looks like a mix between future and 50's which is interesting. I guess Jeff Daniels isn't just playing a cameo role.

Hmmm, looks like a cool sci-fi/action movie.

Wait a minute...if he still exists in the future, doesn't that mean he doesn't die in the past? Aw man, spoiler!

Because trailers are necessary. The director isn't going to just say 'nu-uh' to all trailers, because he knows that he won't reach much of an audience that way. But I'm sure that many of them prefer their audiences go in completely fresh, to discover everything for the first time. I remember the Cabin in the Woods director saying as much.

Maybe its the makeup but I didn't realize that the lead was JGL till his name showed up.

Love the premise, looking forward to seeing this one

I won't watch it. I wish it had a teaser or something.

Trailer's not as good as the first one, but it still looks good. I'm also loving Gordon-Levitt's make-up more and more. He looks like he should be in some 1930s noir thriller with that face, it's awesome.

I'm sure it will reach the classic 12 Monkeys in term of quality and content, but it might be fun and enjoyable nonetheless.
