But one cannot discount the phenomenon this show has become. Over these six years, we've all stuck to our guns and watched every single week as characters lived, characters died, questions were answered by even more questions, and nobody ever got around to explaining that damned polar bear. At some point, for me at least, it became far less about the answers that may or may not have ever existed inside the brains of Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse prior to their need to write this final season, but more about simply sticking it out, seeing it through to the end, and getting some closure, regardless as to how satisfying that conclusion ends up being. I don't even care anymore if the last episode of LOST is good. It's such an event, that by virtue of that fact alone I will have a good time watching it with my fellow Losties as we laugh, cry, face palm, scream out things like "So THAT'S why spinning the wheel sends you to Tunisia!" and generally just enjoy the catharsis that comes along with seeing a show this wantonly mysterious through to the bitter end .
Unless the island just turns out to be purgatory like everyone on the internet predicted--then I'm going to be pissed.
Anyway, with that said, I wanted to get something up here on the main page for all the Screened Losties to hit up for discussion on the final episode. Feel free to comment and post away with your thoughts on the series as a whole, what you expect to see in the finale, and how you feel about a post-LOST world--because like it or not, that's what every TV commentator is going to be calling it for the next billion months. Also, please note that the finale will start at 9 PM EST for the East Coast readers; if you're on the West Coast, you may want to avoid this site (and the internet altogether) starting around 6 PM PST, as there will be SPOILERS ALL OVER THE PLACE!
Additionally, I come bearing a trove of links from other sites that have created their own nifty LOST mega-posts. Videos, DVD info, goofy shit, and the like. Enjoy!
- Variety - Jorge Garcia writes an awesome little goodbye note and talks about his six glorious years working on the show.
- The AV Club - Michelle Welch puts together a neat little collection of news tidbits about the finale's Emmy eligibility, features likely to be found on the season 6 DVD, and a gaggle of audition videos featuring the main actors (and one jokey audition vid of Michael Emerson auditioning for the role of Hurley).
- Slashfilm - Peter Sciretta cobbles together a bunch of neat videos, including Sarah Silverman interviewing Lindelof and Cuse on Funny or Die, Michael Emerson teaching you how to speak creepy, and Lindelof and Cuse making an appearance on David Letterman doing the Top 10 list.
- Warming Glow - LOST as reenacted by cats. Yep, that's a thing.
- Jezebel - Jezebel's video editors create some way cool clip reels, including every time Claire screams about Charlie or her baby, every single on-screen death (nice use of Jim Carroll, I might add), and every single instance of Hurley saying "Dude."
- Jetpac Magazine - An incredibly talented designer creates these awesome posters modeled after each of the Dharma stations. (Thanks @patrickklepek)
And finally, I leave you with this oldie-but-goodie, because deep down in my heart of hearts, I hope and pray that this phrase actually plays some absurdly important meaning in the final episode.
