Lost and the Finale

I was really disappointed with last weeks episode of Lost, but I think a lot was pushed forward in this episode.  It actually feels like it is going somewhere, albeit it is something that I think I have been thinking for half a season now.  What really has me thinking is whether or not the last episode is going to answer the majority of the questions that I have in my mind.  More importantly, in the end does it really matter?

It seemed inevitable for a while now that Locke and Jack are going to be pitted against each other in the island reality, but what is more interesting is the relationship that is brewing in the flash sideways.  This is much more interesting to me, and I have thought since the beginning of the season that this was going to become the true reality.  As the camera panned up from the ocean floor for a sunken image of the island it felt like this was going to become the "truth."  It only holds more creedence now that Locke is trying to destroy the island.  Maybe he is trying to liberate himself from his bonds to the smoke monster as he cannot kill himself.

It is hard to imagine that they are going to be able to satisfy everyone's wish, but I have enjoyed epic endings in recent memory like The Sopranos, but the ending to Battlestar Galactica left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth - the truth is the majority of 4.5 was a dud for me after such a great series til that point.  I am torn and unsure of what I really expect from the writers and creators of the show.  In reality, they have created this problem after hyping this ending so much themselves.  This season has had some real great episodes, but there have been two or three that were downright boring and nonessential.  While they have revealed one small answer, the rest of the episode led to a bunch of nothing - here's talking to you last episode.

I guess this really is "stay tuned."
