Hmm, that sounds wrong. Sure MIB and Jacob are that scene. "The focus of the final season and the conflict are referenced in Part 2 of the pilot" Plus that does not sound like trivia, just a coincidence.

The writers always said they had a plan going in, that the show changed in many ways but what they set up in the initial season would come to light at the end. The Black Vs. White/Good Vs. Evil, Adam and Eve, Science Vs. Faith. A lot was set up from the very first few episodes and held true right up until the end.

That is true, I believe them when they said they knew where the ending was going to lead too and sure they let some symbols and motifs down in the first episode but this is more of a pure luck that the battle of the island is good v evil.

@Dany: Oh, don't get me wrong, they definitely didn't back themselves in to a corner with it. Good Vs. Evil is a given once you set up the Jacob story line and have different factions, Black Vs. White is a simple costume choice.

Adam and Eve and Science Vs. Faith is a little harder to guess on, although definitely worked well throughout the show although becomes apparent after a while some of the key pieces people will always remember did happen with a good pasting of luck rather than planning.

I just about had a stroke when the mother put Jacob and the MiB into white and black onesies.   Talk about taking your audience and smashing them over the head with this stuff...

@Sarnecki: Yeah, LOST was usually pretty careful about this stuff and mostly treated the audience as adults but that was just plain stupid.

The ideas they were throwing around were INCREDIBLY cool.  The Island as the Well for Souls before passing into the after life.  Smoke Monster as the main nemesis, taking the form of Locke.  Your "soul" getting infected.  They just utterly and brutally failed to execute each and every one of those ideas.

(Terry O Quinn knocked it out of the park performance wise.  The writing just wasn't willing to support his utterly magnetic acting)

I always felt that this is the story of LOST. Even to this day after the final aired this scene is important to the series of LOST.

I don't think plot is the right word for it. Theme or overtone would be more appropriate.
