This or The Expendables?

Not for quality, but for fun. Which of these two movies is more fun? I have to give it to Machete. As much as I enjoyed The Expendables, it was a LITTLE too self-serious for its own good (I'm looking at YOU Jason Statham/Charisma Carpenter scenes) and those kinda dragged the movie down. I love seeing douchebags get their faces punched in, don't get me wrong, but I much prefer seeing hitmen get their limbs hacked off and have their guts used as as rope. Literally, that is a thing that happens in Machete.

Just wait...just wait. Like I said, Expendables is a better constructed movie, but Machete is way more fun.

I may end up seeing Expendables, or like parts of it, like years from now...at someone else's house.  The amount of action-star power it has just kinda makes me feel like I NEED to see it at some point.  But it's also the thing that really keeps me from taking it seriously, and that's a problem when it seems to take itself seriously.

Machete is one of the best movies I've seen all year...definitely the most fun I've had in a theater in a looong time.  People who don't get it are simply people who don't understand self-parody, or anything tongue-in-cheek.

Luckily, it seems like it did well at the box office...because they did promise not one, but TWO sequels at the end.  Whether that was just a stylistic device or an actual promise has yet to be seen, although I heard that Tom Savini said there will be sequels.  Specifically I think he said that there was stuff shot for this movie that they decided to save for the sequel(s).

@Undeadpool: I hated looked at whatever Stallone did to his face...I had to stop watching.

Shit... hard but good question. I'm going to say that I enjoyed Machete more, as I felt that it had a bit more fun, though The Expendables is definitely awesome in it's own, yet similar rite.

Machete was ridiculously fun as fuck.

I hope they were serious when they said that there would be sequels.

@chickendude05: they totally are- Rodriguez and the gang still have intentions on sequels, and one actor from the first movie was supposed to have a death in the first film, though they've confirmed that the scene will be saved for the next one

I would suggest The Expendables over Machete. But then again, I don't particularly like grindhouse/exploitation films a whole lot.

While I thoroughly enjoyed both, I thought Machete got a little slow at times. I'm more of an Expendables guy.

@Toxin066: Did you find Jessica Alba to be annoying in Machete? She seemed to be awkward and hodgepodge.
Post by Toxin066 (717 posts) See mini bio
@mylifeforaiur:  At points I did. I felt like she was almost overacting or trying too hard at points - almost like she was taking her role too seriously.

As a film, The Expendables is most likely better, but I think Machete just barely edges out in the "fun" category. Both are definitely worth a watch.

I hate Jessica Alba so I'm automatically up on The Expendables. Also, the grindhouse thing seems so played out at this point.

Everything except for the the last half/action scene of The Expendables was pretty meh, which is mind-blowing considering it nearly delivered on all the hype for me. Kinda the opposite with Machete. The beginning was fantastic, but the movie slowly went downhill from there, personally, with the ending being pretty bleh (though "MACHETE WILL RETURN" was awesome). Expendables barely edges it out. I appreciated the goofiness of Machete in comparison to Expendables, though, which felt like it was actually taking itself seriously.

I'm looking forward to the inevitable sequels for both.

I should probably check both of them out, huh?
Machete Trailer

In case you were wondering, Danny Trejo is DEFINITELY the wrong Mexican to fuck with.
