That look of dismissive disdain? That's what Don Draper thinks of the name "U-Verse."
For the last six months, AT&T's cable division, U-Verse, has been locked in contract negotiations with Rainbow Media Holdings, the company that owns the AMC, IFC and WE cable networks. According to Deadline, those negotiations have been nothing short of contemptuous, with AT&T claiming that Rainbow's networks are among the "least watched and most overpriced" out there, while Rainbow says that "AT&T is acting in an aggressive manner that puts their corporate interests ahead of their customers."
So why do you care about any of this? Because if you happen to be a U-Verse customer, this means that AMC might disappear from your lineup ahead of the July 25th debut of Mad Men's fourth season. Oh. Em. GEE.
I say again, I fully expect this to work out, but if you're one of the couple of million people who subscribes to AT&T U-Verse, and you have any interest in watching the Mad Men premiere, maybe this would be a good time to call your local cable provider and hassle whatever poor schmuck happens to answer your call. It won't fix anything, but at least you'll be able to scream at a total stranger with no power to solve your Mad Men-related woes.
Also, U-Verse is a really stupid name for a cable company.
