 Gentlemen, let's face the facts: this charity auction is about the only way any of us will get within five miles of this.

The 1960s. We all know the decade was defined by three things and three things only: the Beatles, hippies and the smooth, rich taste of Parliament cigarettes and its brethren. AMC knew this before shooting Mad Men, but in the name of accuracy, damn it, they had to include the things or be out of step with history. Now, perhaps out of concern with how their show's practically a weekly hour-long tobacco ad (just looking at Hendricks up there makes me want a drag badly...and I'm not even a smoker) Mad Men is teaming up with City of Hope hospital in sunny Southern California to auction off a whole mess of things from the show to help fund cancer treatment and research. One of those things is an actual walk-on role in an episode.

Lionsgate COO Sandra Stern had this to say about smoking in the show:

"The smoking depicted in Mad Men was ubiquitous in the '60s world of Madison Avenue advertising and is a vivid reminder of how far we've progressed in our attitudes toward smoking since then."

She's right, ad agencies have come along way since then. Certainly the smoke of choice there is now weed. Anyway, the walk-on isn't the only thing being put on the auction block, furniture and props from the offices of Sterling Cooper will also be available. Also up for grabs, and no doubt causing a frenzy among well-heeled Tokyo executives, are costume dresses worn by January Jones and Hendricks. Mmm...let the creepy sniffing fantasies commence.

In the end, it's all for a good cause. If you're interested in seeing all of what's being offered check their eBay celebrity charity auction page any time between today and August 22.

I hope Christina wins the Emmy this year. It's always nice for someone that many think to be just a "pretty face" to have an award to back up their talent.

Won't they need that stuff for future seasons? The show isn't ending, is it?

It seems like a good idea, I guess.

Well I'm glad none of them understand the Ayn Rand philosophy that the 1960s and Mad Men embraces. I do appreciate the help they're giving though, unless they were somehow forced to do it.

I'll admit that it's been a while since I've seen the Saffron episodes of Firefly, but I don't recall her breasts being that GINORMOUS in the show. I'll have to go and see those episodes again. >_>

@Matt:
Did I mention my wedding dress is almost a copy of a dress Joan wore once? ;)

@Mistress_Redhead: Nice! So, uh, any plans to sell it to dress-sniffing Japanese businessmen afterwards? Because, if so, I can point you in the right direction.
