Main Character Narration

Films are better than books in almost every conceivable way. They can show beautiful vistas. They can show action scenes without having to get bogged down in overly descriptive and or repetitive words taking up precious face punching time. They're over quicker. Forget this whole "imagination" rubbish! Films kick book's arses!

Except in one department.

Books have the ability to tell you what a character is thinking at any time without it seeming like an exposition dump or ruining the methodically created pace used before hand. Films don't get that luxury. The only way around this is get around this is to have your character say it out loud. This breaks the reality of the scene in most cases and seems down right expository at worst.

This is where Main Character Narration comes in.

This allows the film to adequately explain the main character's reasons for doing whatever the hell it is he/she is doing without needing to shoehorn another character into the scene just so that they can get the same thing across in a conversation and slowing the pace down to a crawl. It's also often used to allow the main character to get across some morbid humour relating to the oft-dire situation they get involved in (eg: Kick-Ass, Dexter).

Problem solved! Films are now completely better than books! Science says so!
