The new Superman flick has just gotten another villain. Variety is reporting that Antje Traue
has been cast as Faora in Superman: Man of Steel.
She’ll be teaming up with Michael Shannon, who’s already been confirmed as
General Zod. Antje is a German actress who starred in the sci-fi thriller Pandorum, which you may remember as that weird space horror movie that Vinny really liked. Or, maybe not.
Now, I’m not the biggest Superman buff, but from what I understand there are numerous versions of the character Faora in the Superman mythos. Thankfully, Variety has pinned down one they believe Antje is most likely to play:
“It's more likely that Traue will be playing the version of Faora that debuted in Action Comics #779 as a Pokolistanian aide of General Zod. That character was an orphan metahuman with the ability to disrupt molecular bonds, which allowed her to create a mutagenic virus that served as the linchpin of Zod's plan.”
Disrupting molecular bonds and creating a super virus? Sounds like she’s one powerful super bitch. If you can remember way back to Superman 2, the female Kryptonian in that one was Ursa. That character was apparently based off of Faora, so that also gives us a little glimpse into what we can possibly expect. Personally, I think Michael Shannon is going to steal the show either way. That being said, I saw Pandorum and I think Antje could be a nice fit alongside Agent Nelson.
Production on the Man of Steel is set to begin this summer in Chicago. It’ll be hitting theaters in December of 2012… if the world hasn’t ended. What do you all think of the casting choice?
