 Not Suspicious at All.
A man steps off a train at a train station in New York. Another man carrying a satchel and an umbrella spots him. Umbrella man follows the first man as he walks. The umbrella man then taps the walking man on the back on the leg with his umbrella. The umbrella man apologizes in a British accent and the walking man thinks nothing of the situation. The walking man continues to walk to his home in Rye, New York. The walking man starts felling pain and dizziness. He stumbles through his front door before collapsing. Watching these events transpire is the umbrella man.

Emergency Thoracic Surgery for Fun and Profit.
The man who passed out wakes up taped to a table with a light shining in his eyes. A needle lays next to him, and he is covered with blood. He looks around and spots a figure through a plastic sheeting divider. The figure talks on the phone and informs emergency services that a seriously injured man is in need of medical attention at 5776 Dower Street. The figure says cheers, hangs up the phone, and enters the plastic sheet cubicle. It is the umbrella man from the train station. He wears surgical gloves along with his suit. The umbrella man injects the restrained man in the neck while apologizing. The umbrella man says there is no other way. The restrained man whimpers and convulses before blacking out again.

They Should Check San Francisco. He May Have Left It There.
Minutes later, an ambulance arrive. A paramedic and an EMT walk up to the house and mention the strange way the emergency call sounded. They knock on the door. Getting no response, they enter the house and look for a victim. They notice the blood-covered plastic sheeting and call in to dispatch that a homicide may have occurred here. The paramedic enters the make-shift surgical area and examines the restrained man. The man on the operating table has had his heart removed. The paramedic calls the EMT to look at the carnage. The heartless man gasps. He is still alive. The heartless man implores the paramedic to not let him die.

At the train station, the heart thief holds a cooler with the man's heart in it. He looks at his watch as if he is waiting.

Hi. I Have No Hidden Emotional Trauma.
Hi. I Have No Hidden Emotional Trauma.
At  Fringe Headquarters, Agent Phillip Broyles enters his office. Agent Olivia Dunham waits for him. She hopes to get back to work with Fringe Division. She explains to Broyles about her experience in the Alternate Universe, the objectives of the Alternate Universe's Secretary of Defense, and the importance of the Doomsday Machine they recently discovered. The Alternate Universe Secretary of Defense is a man nicknamed Walternate. He wishes to destroy Olivia's Universe because in 1985 Walter Bishop crossed Universes, kidnapped an Alternate version of his son Peter Bishop, and caused a Universe wide energy imbalance. Walternate also is attempting to synthesize Cortexiphan: a chemical in Olivia's blood that allows her to travel between Universes safely.

Broyles' Big Office Compensates for Something.
While Broyles is happy to see Olivia, he puts her on indefinite leave. He says that she needs time to recover ( he also hints that she may be a sleeper agent). Olivia gives a speech about how she made a promise to Alternate Universe Broyles to heal both Universes. She needs to go back to work. Broyles sighs and mulls over the request. Olivia never directly says that she promised Alternate Broyles, but Broyles understands. He asks veiled questions about his Alternate's life. Olivia says he was honorable and committed. She says he wanted to protect his family: his wife and two kids. Broyles is estranged from his family, but he understands.

At the Bishop household, Walter and Peter Bishop prepare to go to a Fringe investigation scene. Walter is looking for his cauterizer. He finds it in the bathroom because he left it there after he removed a growth from a sensitive area. Walter and Peter get into their car and start driving. Walter continues to try and steer the conversation towards Peter's sexual relationship with Alternate Universe Olivia (or B-Olivia or Bolivia). Walter wants Peter to talk to Olivia about his relationship with the woman he thought was Olivia. Peter says he will tell Olivia everything even though it will change the nature of their relationship. Walter encourages him.

Inside the police cordon at the crime scene, Walter and Peter run into Broyles and Olivia. Walter and Peter walk towards 5776 Dower Street as Olivia and Broyles exit their vehicle. Walter expresses joy at seeing Olivia. Peter is more surprised and asks why she is not resting. Broyles says she is cleared for duty. Peter accepts this statement and asks what the Fringe case is. Broyles explains about the man with the stolen heart. He says that responding EMTs talked with the heartless man for three minutes before he died. Walter is happy that he can examine a man that could survive three minutes without a cardiovascular system. They enter the house.

 Interesting. Interesting.
 Interesting. Interesting.
Walter and Peter examine the corpse. Walter asks Peter if he knows of a place where one could import quality pickled herring. Peter says no and asks about the non-sequitr. Walter says he is thinking about Scandanavia. Specifically, he is thinking about the Blood Eagle: a form of torture where the rib cage is cracked open to resemble blood-soaked wings. Peter asks if they are looking for a Viking. Walter ignores the comment and continues his examination. He concludes that the heart thief is trained in surgery by the precision of the work. He says it was definitely not a Viking. Walter points out scar surgery indicating that the dead man had heart surgery before this time. Peter leaves to search through the man's medicine cabinet.

Giblets.
Giblets.
Walter tells his findings to Olivia and Broyles over the corpse. Walter says that standard definitions of death do not apply in this situation. He taps the corpse's wrist with a rubber mallet, and the hand flinches in a reflex reaction. Peter arrives with a tray filled with an array of medicine. Olivia says that his organs were not harvested for the black market as such a sick man's heart would be useless. The prescribing physician is Alexander Ross. Broyles orders Olivia to investigate Doctor Ross. He also orders Walter to take the corpse back to his lab for further examination.

Peter and Olivia wait for Doctor Ross to leave surgery. They sit in the hospital's commissary and drink coffee. Peter mocks the quality of  hospital coffee, and Olivia responds that it is nice to be able to take coffee for granted. Olivia smiles. She compares her situation to going on vacation, coming back, and finding certain items a revelations (she mispronounces it relevation). She continues to say that it is disconcerting to know someone else has been living your life. Peter looks embarrassed as this topic is the one he has been avoiding -- as he was sleeping with the fake Olivia.

You Can Pinpoint Exactly Where Her Heart Explodes. Right... now.
Peter talks to Olivia about his relationship with Bolivia. He says that Bolivia was faster to smile and less intense. He believed her because she said that seeing her other life made her want to change. Olivia says that the deception was not Peter's fault. Peter continues to say that he came back to Olivia's Universe because she said that Peter belonged with him. He says he came back for Olivia.  He admits that he had a  relationship with Bolivia because he thought she was Olivia. Olivia looks devastated. She asks who knows about how Peter feels. He says he reported everything when the deception was revealed.

Olivia tries to justify Peter's actions both to him and herself. She says that in the Alternate Universe she lived Bolivia's life. Bolivia has people who love her, care for her, and would die for her. Olivia says that Bolivia has a sweet boyfriend. She says she does not know what would have happened if he had not been out of town. She says she understands. She says that they are fine. A nurse interrupts and brings them to see Doctor Ross.

Doctor Ross is confused by Olivia and Peter's line of questioning. She cannot believe that the heartless man survived after his heart was removed. She describes the medicine he was taking. She says that Mr. Russo, the heartless man, suffered from congestive heart failure and waited over a year to get his heart transplant. As the doctor says that they thought they gave him a second chance, Olivia and Peter's eyes meet and  exchange subtext.

Subterranean Medical Labs Are Never a Bad Place to Be.
In a dark, basement lab somewhere, the heart thief stitches up a young woman's body while listening to music on a Victrola. He finishes his work.  He tells the female corpse that everything will be okay soon.

 That's Handy.
 That's Handy.
In Walter's Harvard lab, Walter and Agent Astrid Farnsworth examine the heartless corpse. Astrid searches  a computer database for information on the Yatsko Project. Walter says that he and William Bell developed a serum in the 1970s similar to the one used on the corpse. He says they were trying to devise a way to question someone after death. Walter tells Astrid to tell Nina Sharp at Massive Dynamic to search the Pet Projects for the Yatsko Project. Astrid leaves to go to Massive Dynamic. Peter enters to drive Walter home. Walter makes Peter sniff the heartless corpse. Peter notices that the body is not decomposing. Walter shows Peter a phial of the man's blood that contains a chemical that slows down cell degradation. Walter thinks that the heart thief kept the heartless man alive long enough to assuage his conscience. Walter believes that if the EMTs had brought the heartless man to a heart-lung machine in time, he may have survived.

Walter asks Peter if he told Olivia about his relationship with Bolivia. Peter says that he did. Peter reports that Olivia reacted surprisingly well. They both pause to think about her reaction. Walter asks if they replaced Olivia with a robot.

In her apartment, Olivia looks through her closet.  She fixes her hair and notices a sun tattoo on the back of her neck. She remembers that she received that tattoo in the Alternate Universe when Walternate tried to brainwash her into believing she was Bolivia. It reminds her of a different life and a different person. She remembers that someone else was living her life. She rips down all her close from their hangers. She removes her bed sheets and plans to wash them. She finds clothing still in her washing machine. One of them is Peter's MIT t-shirt. It reminds her of the relationship Peter had with Bolivia. Olivia curls into a ball and cries.

At Fringe Headquarters, Olivia enters the break room. Astrid offers her a cup of coffee, and they discuss adjusting back to her normal life. Olivia lies and says that things are fine. She admits to Astrid that Peter told her about his relationship with the woman he thought was Olivia. Olivia asks Astrid how Peter seemed with Bolivia. She wants to know if he was happier. Astrid pauses. Olivia withdraws the question and starts to walk from the room. Astrid tells Olivia that the feelings Peter had were not for Bolivia but for Olivia. She says they were real, and Peter may still fell the same about Olivia. Olivia is only slightly comforted.

 So, Olivia. How Are Things?
 So, Olivia. How Are Things?
In Broyles' office, Broyles briefs Olivia, Astrid, and Peter. He shows them similar organ thefts from across five states and says the same person committed the crimes. It turns out that all of the organs were transplants from the same donor. Someone is trying to rebuild the organ donor. Broyles says they do not have a name because organ donors are kept confidential. They have a description of a 17-year old girl. Astrid and Olivia think that perhaps the organ thief objects to organ donation or thinks that the recipients are unworthy. Peter notices that the body has been remanded into the custody of Rosindale Eye Bank. So far, nobody has reported their corneas being stolen. Broyles calls the Rosindale Eye Bank and demands to talk to the Executive Director. He is unavailable.

In the Rosindale Eye Bank, another man is taped to a surgical table. The surgery thief says that the man's corneas do not belong to him. The restrained man's eyes are pinned open. The surgery thief apologizes, puts a face mask on, and prepares to operate.

Broyles, Peter, and Olivia start to search the Rosindale Eye Bank. It is under heavy construction, but there is a light on in the back. Broyles ends a phone call with Astrid. Astrid says that the donor's name is Amanda Walsh. Her family lives in Providence. The door to the Eye Bank is unlocked, so they enter. They search the darkened premises. Peter spots a surgical table with bloody tools and recently severed bonds. Olivia says they are too late. They hear a noise coming from another room. The three go and search for the sound. Olivia finds a man with his eyes removed. He pleads for help.

He Was a Very Polite Organ Thief.
Later, in the hospital, the eyeless man recounts his ordeal. He says that he felt faint and dizzy as he inspected the construction on the building. He remembers being taped to a slab and the surgery thief apologizing. Olivia and Peter walk from the hospital and say that Walter was right. They are dealing with a "remorseful organ thief." Peter calls Broyles to inform him that they are going to talk to Amanda Walsh's family.

Back in the Harvard lab, Astrid walks in on Walter dripping the solution from the heartless man's blood into milk. Walter says that if the solution arrests cell decay then milk and cheese can be developed that never spoils. Astrid interrupts his musings and gives him the Yatsko Project files from Massive Dynamic. She explains that someone else picked up the work on the project after Walter stopped. Walter has a working hypothesis. Walter tells Astrid to get the body of Amanda Walsh, or what's left of it. He needs it to test his theory.

With Sprint's 4G Speeds, Solving Crimes is a Snap!
Olivia and Peter interview Amanda Walsh's mother. Amanda's mother says that the only thing that consoled her was that Amanda's death helped others. Olivia asks if Amanda was dating anyone. The mother says no, that she did not have any friends at all. She says that Amanda focused on ballet -- the only thing that made her happy. Amanda's mother says that her daughter committed suicide due to extreme clinical depression. She says that Amanda was on medication and attended several group therapies. Olivia asks for the names of the treating doctors and the groups she attended. Peter excuses himself to  answer a phone call from Astrid. In a Sprint Video Chat, Astrid tells Peter  that Walter has a sensitive request to ask of the mother. Back in Amanda Walsh's family home, the mother hands Olivia all the documents she has on Amanda's treatment. Peter re-enters and asks for permission to exhume Amanda's body. The mother says that it is impossible.

Peter places an urn full of ashes in front of Walter in his lab. Walter sighs and then tastes the ashes. Astrid and Peter recoil in disgust at the eating of a person's ashes. Walter says it is not in fact a cremated body. It is some kind of hardwood and concrete. Walter believes that whoever is stealing the organs is trying to reassemble Amanda.

 Really Creepy.
In his underground surgery lair, the organ thief straps the body of Amanda Walsh into a harness system. He talks to her and caresses her hand. She appears to be rigged like a marionette. The organ thief puts a record on a Victrola. She operates a series of levers and pulleys to move Amanda's corpse like a ballerina. The corpse clumsily dances and sways. The organ thief starts to cry. He stops his corpse puppetry.

Walter continues to examine the heartless corpse. Astrid finishes a phone call with Broyles. She explains that Amanda Walsh's body was stolen, and the funeral home tried to hide the theft. Apparently, corpse theft if fairly common. Walter goes into the history of corpse theft as a means to scientific research in the 1800s. He says that it inspired the novel Frankenstein. Astrid asks if someone can really revive a corpse. Walter says no. He says that he and William Bell could never revive Yatsko -- Peter's cocker spaniel. Walter notices that the heartless man's body is finally starting to enter rigor mortis.

Just A Reminder. I'm Still Perfectly, Emotionally Stable.
Olivia and Peter go through an archive, searching through files. They look through the depression support groups for anyone with a medical or scientific background. Peter finds a man named Ellis Rourke. The file says he is an angry individual with a degree in biology. Olivia rules him out as he does not fit the profile of the organ thief. Another FBI agent arrives and delivers another box of patient files. Olivia explains that Amanda was in a cognitive behavior group for coping with depression. Peter makes an absent-minded comment that someone working so hard at being okay would eventually get better. Olivia is in the same situation and explains that it does not always work that way. Peter finds another file of a socially and sexually incompetent man. Olivia says he does not fit the profile. Peter objects that she dismissed the man so easily as a suspect. He wants to know why. Olivia says that profiling involves gut reaction and feeling. She explains that he does not love her. Anyone willing to steal for Amanda and bring her back from a suicide loves her. Peter understands the implications of Olivia's talk of love, and they both move back to the investigation. Peter finds another file for a man named Roland David Barrett. He is an animal researcher that dropped out of the support group the day Amanda committed suicide.

Olivia and Peter drive towards Barrett's last known location. Peter reads the file. Barrett is the inheritor of the Stanfield Chemical Fortune. Barrett suffers from depression that forced him to quit his post-doctoral work on cell degeneration. Peter reads that four years ago Barrett contributed to an international group called the Duck-Hee Organization where his work helped create synthetic life at the cellular level. Peter believes that Roland David Barrett is capable of reanimating a corpse.

Her Eyes are Pointing in Two Different Directions.
In his surgery lair, Barrett fastens various electrical wires to Amanda's body. He activates a device and increases the current. Amanda's body jolts, and a heart monitor briefly reads a pulse. The pulse quickly fades. Barrett is about to retune his device when Amanda gasps and moves her eyes. Amanda breathes in labored breaths. Barrett talks to Amanda and tells her that he saved her. Amanda continues to have trouble breathing. Barrett holds up Amanda's face so that she looks at him. Even though her body is animated, she is not the person he wanted to revive. He realizes the mistake he has made. The FBI surrounds the building and demands that Barrett surrender. Barrett runs.

 This Zombie Re-Died.
 This Zombie Re-Died.
Heavily armed FBI teams begin to search Barrett's mansion. Broyles, Olivia, Peter, and Walter enter the building and begin to search for evidence of Barrett or Amanda's body. Broyles hears Barrett running in the basement and opens a door leading downstairs. They find something shocking. Meanwhile, Olivia tackles Barrett as he tries to sneak past the FBI. Broyles does not find anyone in the basement. Peter and Walter join him. They see the medical equipment but not Amanda's reanimated body. Upstairs, Olivia questions Barrett. He tearfully says that he regrets reanimating Amanda's corpse and know that the zombie in the basement is not Amanda. In the basement, Broyles, Peter, and Walter find Amanda's corpse. She is dead once again.

Later, the corpse is loaded into an ambulance. Walter says he needs a strawberry milkshake to cope with the trauma. Peter walks off to find Olivia. He finds her crying to herself on some nearby patio furniture. He asks if she is okay. Olivia explains that Barrett said that he looked into reanimated Amanda's eyes and knew it was not her. Olivia says that logically she can accept that Peter could not see past Bolivia's ruse. She knows that Peter wanted to be with Olivia and explained away any differences. However, she says that the only thing that kept her going in the Alternate Universe was a figment of her imagination that took the form of Peter. She asks why Peter why on an emotional level he did not see that Bolivia was not her. Olivia says that she does not want to be herself anymore and she does not want to be with Peter. She believes that Bolivia has taken everything away from her. Peter sits on the patio furniture, cries, and apologizes to no one.

Peter drives Walter to a Malt Shop to get a strawberry milkshake. Across the street, an Observer, a group of bald men wearing fedoras that report on the unfolding of events in the Universes, calls his supervisor. He says that he is looking at "him" as they speak. "He" is still alive.
