Character History

Early Life

Marshall Erisken was born in St. Cloud, Minnesota. He has two older brothers, Marcus and Marvin Jr. At a young age, Marshall read Life Among the Gorillas by Dr. Aurelia Birnholz-Vazquez (a fictional anthropologist). Marshall went to listen to her speak at a community college and expressed interest in becoming an anthropologist too. She said there would be no environment when he grew up. This inspired him to become a lawyer.

Marshall attended Wesleyan University. He initially clashed with his freshman roommate Ted Mosby, with Mosby being pretentious and uptight and Marshall being an all around goof. After a nightmarish drive to Ohio, the two were able to become friends. In college, Marshall also met his future wife, Lily Aldrin, an art student. Lily is the first and only girlfriend Marshall has ever had.
