Fantastic Four May Be Coming Home

Marvel/Disney are apparently negotiating with 20th Century Fox over the film rights to be relinquished back to Marvel in order to have an extension over the rights of Daredevil. Fox wants to put Joe Carnahan in the director's chair for the film, replacing David Slade, and apparently they think the value of Daredevil is greater than that of the Fantastic Four. Given the fact that FF got a sequel while Daredevil did not, is a bit perplexing. However, this would put Marvel in a happier situation to have another of their franchises under their creative control again. I'm in favour of Marvel getting another of their properties the treatment they probably deserve, because that's one of the defining features of the films they produce, but I'm still wary that Marvel could possibly over saturate the market with superhero movies and then the superhero box office balloon will pop.

All I ask Marvel to keep Josh Trank involved with Fantastic Four because that seems like a brilliant idea. And though I wasn't a huge fan of the first Daredevil, I like the choice of Carnahan. He's a director that has talent, The Grey is one of my favorite films of the year, but he isn't a director that has done well consistency.

I'm happy to see any Marvel property back under their wing. They've done a consistently better job with their films than external studios have.

As a big Fanstastic Four fan I think Marvel/Disney could make a really good movie and the franchise is a natural in the movieverse. As for my favorite Marvel character I think Daredevil would be a poor fit for Marvel/Disney. He is kind of a dark character that seems weirdly out of place with the other films from Marvel/Disney.

That is a bit weird that Fox would try and keep DareDevil over FF but they also messed up that IP pretty bad so why try invest more? FF going to Marvel/Disney would give them a new large IP to expand their universe as well as give them a more "family friendly" toy to play with. Seriously if Pixar were to make a Marvel movie I'd want it to be Fantastic Four.

DareDevil could be a fun movie if done right and Joe Carnahan isn't a bad choice to direct whatever it becomes.

I'm pretty excited because this means Daredevil could potentially join the Avengers in a future movie if Marvel gets the rights back. I was not a huge fan of the original film but I think Daredevil can be done well. He's a darker Spiderman, if you will. He's just as smart as Peter Parker, ladies man, and similar humor to Spidey. Just keep Bendis away from the film and I'll be happy (probably).

This is the actual quote from the report:

“Fox is in discussions with Joe Carnahan to direct what’s been described as a “Frank Miller-esque, hardcore 70s thriller” take on [Daredevil]. Sources say Marvel would give Fox more time to make Daredevil in return for the rights to use characters from the Fantastic Four universe, including the giant, supervillain Galactus, and future use of Silver Surfer.”

So they just want the rights to Galactus and Silver Surfer mainly, not the whole F4.

I'd rather see a reboot of the Fantastic Four (perhaps one with less crappy acting) than Daredevil. Maybe I've been tainted by that first movie but that universe just doesn't intrigue me as much.
