Bret Maverick is looking to collect money he is owed so he can post the entry fee to a big time poker tournament in this movie based on the TV series of the same name.

Trivia:

There are a plethora of references to the Lethal Weapon series. The lead bank robber is Danny Glover. Annabelle shrinks Maverick's "Lucky Shirt" similarly to what Leo does Riggs's shirt in Lethal Weapon 2. Maverick is also directed by Richard Donner. Steve Kahan, the dealer during the poker tournament, plays Mel Gibson's captain in the Lethal Weapon series.
