Merlin is a British television series created by Julian Jones, Jake Michie, Julian Murphy and Johnny Capps and is based on the Arthurian legends of King Arthur and the magician Merlin. It airs on BBC One in the UK and was first broadcast on September 20, 2008. The show takes the Saturday night prime time slot and appears in place of other family viewing such as Doctor Who and Robin Hood. Converse to some other adaptations, Merlin is a young man of similar age to Arthur and the story follows the latter's slow rise to the throne from his role as prince.

Plot Summary

Merlin is sent to Camelot by his mother to stay with the court physician Gaius. Merlin soon discovers that to practice magic results in death under the reign of Uther Pendragon. The young warlock discovers that the great dragon is being kept in a dungeon under Camelot's grounds. The dragon tells Merlin that it his destiny to protect prince Arthur, a man who one day will rule a great Camelot. Although Arthur at first views his servant Merlin with arrogance, the pair's friendship grows stronger, all the while Merlin is keeping his gift of possessing magic a secret.
