Michael Madsen is an American actor, photographer and poet well known for his roles in films such as Thelma and Louise, Free Willy, Reservoir Dogs and Donnie Brasco.
Michael Soren Madsen was born September 25, 1957 in Chicago, Illinois and led a troubled early life, learning to boost cars as a teenager and serving time in prison for it. Following his release, Madsen studied acting with the Steppenwolf Theatre Company under actor John Malkovich. His film debut came with a minor independent film role in 1982 and after two more years of more minor film and TV parts he landed the role of Bump Bailey alongside Robert Redford in The Natural. After playing Susan Sarandon's boyfriend in Thelma and Louise, Madsen teamed up with Quentin Tarntino for Reservoir Dogs and played one of his most memorable roles to date, the psychopathic gangster, Mr. Blonde.
Reservoir Dogs turned out to be the ticket into big budget Hollywood films that Madsen was looking for and he was cast in a series of box office successes: Free Willy, Mulholland Falls, Wyatt Earp and Donnie Brasco, to name a handful. He teamed up with Tarantino again for Kill Bill and appeared in Sin City, but in recent times has not been cast in similar blockbusters again, though he remains a prolific actor. Madsen is an accomplished poet, drawing inspiration from Jack Kerouac and similar beat poets, and has published several books.
