In the 1987 animated series Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles portrayed Michaelangelo in his typical party and jokester ways. In the theme song he was first described as a "party dude" and is usually seen joking and talking with his brothers rather than fighting or training. This series was also the origin of cowabunga one of the more famous phrases from the entire turtles franchise. Michelangelo's fondness for pizza also makes its way full force into the series more so than his brothers could even imagine. Primarily Michaelangelo is the comic relief throughout the entire series.

Michelangelo was voiced by Townsend Coleman for the entire series and Coleman was the first to give the character his iconic "surfer/skater" voice that would be associated with Michelangelo to this day.

2003 saw a new animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show hit television. Mikey, as he is known throughout this series, reverts to the personality more portrayed in the original TMNT comic books. He does retain his jokester attitude but drops a large portion of the surfer slang and takes on a more immature nature especially when compared to his brothers. Michelangelo is seem more as the opposite of Raphael in the series, even with an aversion to fighting. Michelangelo tends to spend more time reading comics rather than training ninjutsu.

In the first live action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, Michelangelo takes on his calm and joking spirit but with a heavier focus on being similar to his brothers. In the film the turtles are seen fighting their first battle against some burglars and taking on Shredder and his evil Foot Clan. He is often seen hanging out with Donatello mostly because Raphael and Leonardo are fighting a lot of the time.

After the turtle's sewer hideout is ransacked and their master, Splinter, is kidnapped by the Foot, all of the turtles take the events pretty hard. Michelangelo, just like his brothers, takes to training and dealing with the grim possibility that their life long master and sensei may already be dead. After he and his brothers focus and meditate they are able to speak with Splinter and he tells them that training and focusing their mind was the last step to become true masters of ninjutsu.

The turtles are now prepared to take on the Foot. Shredder assaults the turtles and when the four of them take on Shredder both one on one and all together and it takes Splinter's calm, albeit slower, skills as well as Shredder's own aggression to defeat Shredder.

In the second film, Secret of the Ooze, Michelangelo and the other turtles all have less serious attitude about them. We see Michelangelo using sausage links in the beginning of the movie and, along with Donatello, doesn't use his traditional weapons at all because the movie was attempting to stray away from the first films more darker tone and appeal to children.

The turtles in this film must face the same ooze that mutated themselves in the form of Tooka and Rahzar, two animals that were transformed by a not so dead Shredder. Shredder is consumed to seek revenge on the turtles at all costs and in a confrontation with them is unable to defeat them. He them takes the very last ooze vial and drinks it down turning himself into Super Shredder. Super Shredder is even more consumed with destroying the turtles that he only ends up killing himself after knocking the dock they were fighting under to collapse on him.

In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3 he goes back into time and visits feudal Japan taking the place of four honor guards. There Michelangelo is seprated from his brothers during battle and is imprisoned but is eventually rescued again by his brothers. he because involved emotionally with one of the japanese woman to the point where he and Raphael argue breaking the time staff they were building that would return them home.

The emotional attachment Michelnagelo builds is so strong that he doesn't return to his original time period once the evils of the past have been defeated. He eventually does though and becomes fairly depressed but thanks to Splinter is cheered up.

In 2007 and animated TMNT film was released portraying the turtles as separated and fractured. Leonardo has gone to Central American and Michelangelo is spending his time making money as a children's entertainer to make ends meet and is shown as being adversely effected by the separation of his family. Similar to the first movie Mikey is drawn to Donatello to avoid Raphael and Leonardo's fighting.

Personality and Traits:

Michelangelo is continually viewed as the prankster, jokester, and all around happy go lucky member of the TMNT. He is usually light-hearted and is always ready a joke to help liven any fight or battle the turtles may be taking on. Despite the difference between the mutated turtles and normal humans, Michelangelo takes a liking to comic books, movies, skateboarding, and most of all pizza. All of the ninja turtles loves pizza, Splinter too sometimes, but Mikey has a deeper love for the meal and usually the one to instigate ordering one, don't be late.

His favorite color his orange which is why he choose a orange bandana for his ninjutsu mask. During his training Mikey took a liking "chucking" and thus choose nunchakus for his main weapon during fighting but doesn't rely on them and uses them as a fighting aid.
