Will there be a sequel to The Book of Eli?

The goofy bit with Mila suiting up was the only part of the movie that didn't gel with me. They concluded everything, then throw this little copout "sequel maybe uguys" thing with Mila, except Mila doesn't have a goddamn reason to do anything narratively.

Me, I can't fucking stand Robot Chicken. Let's take bits of nostalgia then adds tons of violence, dick, and, fart jokes.  It lazy and hack as fuck.  The show is just Family Guy with any pathetic attempts and story telling or character development.

How do you justify a sequel to Book of Eli? The movie was just decent, everything wrapped up, and the world really wasn't that compelling to warrant a second visit.  If it was more like a certain Rutger Hauer movie meets A Boy and His Dog then I would say fuck yeah bring on a sequel.  If they do make a sequel forget Mila Kunis and base it on Tom Waits character he played in a cameo.

A sequel is extremely unnecessary.

This.

OMG this! I fucking hated, HATED that damn ending. Mila Kunis rolls a grenade on the road and is suddenly a badass? Everything about the reveal with Eli was great and awesome but damn, Mila Kunis was good in the movie but that ending soured it

I think every post apocalypse should have a character type that goes by "the missionary" that has a gun, but it shouldn't be some 14 year old looking girl in sunglasses. It should be a half robot with a cowboy hat and silver teeth.

It's an ok movie, but the ending (as repeated many times in this thread) was shit. Mila Kunis is a good actor (see Black Swan), but she doe not fit as a badass killing machine that roams the post apocalyptic world.

I hope not. That first movie went from great to godawful with the introduction of magical bible powers.

It doesn't need one, and if one does happen then I assume Garry Whitta will have no involvement. He has been doing a lot of work with the Penny Arcade guys as of late.

Okay,Okay........  Look at how many female actresses that have bombed in recent films over the past five years. None in which have been in any film remotely similar. The way I see it some females in the last five years that I found awful made it because of those they acted with and not because of their abilities. And let's just name one everyone knows "Megan Fox" in The Transformer Movies. Granted she is or was a looker and looks more like a hooker now....but, her acting is just horrible and she was made by starring in that film. Mila on the other hand has been in several films and she has come a long way from television. The last several films she has been in she did an amazing job growing into her roles. Now to the topic at hand... The Book of Eli was in many way's  a powerful movie. I for one would not consider myself a religious man but I do believe in the power of faith. The best part of that movie was when Denzel "ELI" tells Mila "Solaris"  People had more than they needed. We had no idea what was precious and what wasn't. We threw away things people kill each other for now. The way I see it, that movie brought a message. That quote actually hits home to me based on the fact that I have seen war first hand with multiple tours in Afghanistan where it looks like a Apocalyptic wasteland. I have seen what people are capable of doing to one another. I was witness to human beings being killed over things that we take for granted.

Anyhow, I think a sequel in most cases can be a bad idea but if the Hughes brothers put as much thought as they did into this movie to make it so memorable I would only hope that they would do the same for a sequel. I would try to keep as many of the original characters as possible to include the starring role going to "Mila Kunis". I would love to see the movie recap the time spent at Alcatraz where if you think about it, she would of had to spend a couple of years while the book / Bible was being written. If you have read the bible then you know how long that takes. Imagine having someone recite the entire thing by memory and then having to write it word for word. I would say at least 5yrs and that includes putting it to print which I know takes time. Not only was Eli a badass but you remember they had some sort of military protecting Alcatraz which if you know anything about being a soldier you train. So I'm sure that Solaris was taught to be a warrior and faith has made a path for her to follow. I just hope that if a sequel is made it 's done with great thought. Mila did a great job and I think she'd be great following this role!

In closing Eli say's it best!
Dear Lord, thank you for giving me the strength and the conviction to complete the task you entrusted to me. Thank you for guiding me straight and true through the many obstacles in my path. And for keeping me resolute when all around seemed lost. Thank you for your protection and your many signs along the way. Thank you for any good that I may have done, I'm so sorry about the bad. Thank you for the friend I made. Please watch over her as you watched over me. Thank you for finally allowing me to rest. I'm so very tired, but I go now to my rest at peace. Knowing that I have done right with my time on this earth. I fought the good fight, I finished the race, I kept the faith.

Mila Jovovich has made a career being the lead girl in action movies. Bad ones that make a lot of money. But she's kind of tall and has a swimmer's body. Mila's just tiny little anemic thing.

well, i agree that a sequel is really not necessary, but unlike many people here, i think the way it ended was just right. the point of the movie was about belief. if we can believe that eli is able to be a "badass" because he is Denzel Washington and not because he is a blind man who from what we know of the storyline had no prior training in marksmanship, both with firearms or bows, or close-combat and is capable of so much, let alone be bulletproof, then we really were not paying attention to what was happening. Now if you say "of course i was paying attention, you dork!"...then my apologies. but if so, why not extend the same courtesy you did for denzel's character to milas? "NOO! but she is just a stupid girl that got slapped around and is weak! what? are we supposed to believe that she now just became a bad ass like Eli?!". well i think the answer is in the bible itself.  if you know anything about the bible, Elijah was a prophet of god, who had "magical bible powers" (as some of you call it) and did gods work throughout his life. he was so "bad ass" that he was taken by a chariot of fire to heaven and is considered a major player within the Jewish religion,  when he passed on, he had his "disciple" elisha with him, who took up his mantle and asked for a double portion of elijah's spirit, which was given to him. please excuse the little bible study here, but the point i am making is, if ELI was anointed by god to take the bible to Alcatraz, and he took upon him a "disciple" who learns from him and sees the power of god, and at the end takes up his "mantle" and continues a new journey, is it really that unbelievable to think that a girl is capable of what he was able to do ? im just saying....

I would enjoy a sequal. I think having Solara suit up with some of Eli's gear was cool. It was an ode to him. I think having her go back to look for her mother would make an interesting story. Together maybe the bring the bible back out East or something. I don't think Solara needs to become this ass kicking goddess. But I think carrying a few weapons and other things might come in handy. Along the way they would meet new characters and things. I'm rambling a bit, but hopefully you get my point.
