The Wes Anderson style of movie trailer is almost more distinctive than the Wes Anderson style of actual movie. Why is this? I think it has something to do with how jarringly specific a Wes Anderson trailer is. Take this brand new trailer for the director's latest, Moonrise Kingdom. The beats, the music usage, the pacing, and even the goddamn font is so uniquely and uniformly Wes Anderson that it might as well have come out of some kind of Chinese Wes Anderson movie trailer factory.
That is not a knock against this 1960s coming of age comedy, mind you. If anything, Moonrise Kingdom looks kind of great, in a very Rushmore-meets-Royal Tenenbaums kind of way. This is Anderson's first live action movie since detouring to make the terrific Fantastic Mr. Fox, and it's nice to see him working on something that looks like a real return to form. Plus, I'm sorry, but anything featuring Bill Murray, Bruce Willis, AND Edward Norton in a scout uniform kind of has to be the best thing ever, right? Right?!?
