Mortal Kombat: Legacy began as a short film, by
Kevin Tancharoen, called
Mortal Kombat: Rebirth. It showed a live action Mortal Kombat that was more realistic than previous Mortal Kombat movies with several of Kevin's friends volunteering their time to play the roles of every character. He uploaded it to Youtube so a few colleagues could watch it and he could gauge how interesting it was, but by accident, he left it on public and it exploded. It created rumor and speculation among internet users about a new Mortal Kombat movie being in development. Due to the overwhelmingly positive feedback, people thought it would be green-lit. When presented to Warner Bro's, the movie was not accepted. They did, however, green-light a web series, which Kevin Tancharoen took and created Mortal Kombat: Legacy.
The web series would a 10 episodes and tell the story of several significant character of the Mortal Kombar franchise. The series itself is played out in a non linear fashion, meaning each episode would be devoted to telling the story of a character and the events leading up to their participation in the tenth Mortal Kombat tournament. The series can be watched for free, every Tuesday, at Machinima's
YouTube channel.
