Zookeepers and animals are disappearing and no one knows where to. Howard and Vince investigate the dark depth of the zoo and discover a horrible laboratory where people are being spliced with animals and reptiles.
Joey Moose the zookeeper is investigating a strange noise in the reptile house, when he is cracked over the head by an unseen assailant and falls unconscious.
The next morning Fossil gives a not too professional tour to a group of school children, while Vince paints a portrait of Bollo the ape. Howard comments that Vince should paint him, because of his , and gets offended when Vince tells him he won't be able to paint him because of his generic face. As they argue, Mrs. Gideon comes to the duo with a problem; her python has gone missing from the reptile house, and she wants Vince to investigate.
Meanwhile...underground...Dickson Banebridge, the owner of the zoo, is revealed to be conducting suspicious experiments on the animals, and he wants to move onto humans. His assistant, Fossil, inadvertently releases something held inside a cage, and Banebridge dashes off to recapture it. Fossil quickly calls an emergency meeting for the zookeepers, to discuss the vanishing zoo creatures and try to abate their fears. Before long Banebridge arrives on the scene with a rifle to take control of the situation. Howard stands up for Mrs. Gideon, who fails to recognize him, but backs down when Banebridge takes him up on his challenge.
Mrs. Gideon again calls on Vince for help, because she has heard he can communicate with animals. Vince takes her up on the offer and talks to the cobra, who was near the pythons cage at the time it disappeared. After mind-melding with the cobra, Vince reveals that it was in fact Banebridge who took the python and knocked out Joey Moose. Not one to miss an opportunity to impress Mrs. Gideon, Howard decides to track down Banebridge and put a stop to him.
