Ain't No Jive... Black Dynamite's Kung Fu Comes to Adult Swim

Coming spring... 2012.

The Black Dynamite cartoon's been talked about for a spell, but now the certainty of it happening is surer than a roundhouse kick to some jive turkey’s head. Deadline reports that the series has been picked up for a debut on Adult Swim next spring--meaning spring 2012--so there’s a lot waitin’ ahead. Tommy “Cream Corn” Davidson, Kym “Honeybee” Whitley, Byron “Bullhorn” Minns and Michael Jai White himself are snapping back (like cracker jack?) for this series that’ll be headed by the Boondocks Carl Jones and animated by the fine folks at Titmouse who’ve also brought the likes of Metalocalypse, Super Jail and Afro Samurai to life.

As it happens, a Black Dynamite comic just came out this week from Ape Entertainment while talk of a sequel continues, so anybody who was hurting for a fix after the movie ended is going to get their due dose (just don’t OD on the stuff or we’ll have to shake it out of you.) Having been 11 the summer Spawn came out, and thusly thinking then that it was the coolest thing ever, I’m glad to see White experiencing one hell of a comeback with all of this. Oddly enough, I think he’s kicking more ass with his tongue in cheek than he ever got to in the likes of Universal Soldier and Exit Wounds, et al.

And, hey, Who really needs a reason to watch the trailer again?

YES. VERY YES.
Black Dynamite and Titmouse: The ultimate team.

Well, not taking into account Battletoads and Double Dragon.

Haha when I first saw that image, I thought Afro Samurai with some Boondocks influence.

Glad to see those teams coming together to work on this. I'm not sure if The Boondocks was ever renewed or cancelled but I hope it comes back for a fourth season.

Why this is simply awesome news! Although I do have to wonder if they're going to constantly keep the show firmly in the territory of making fun of while at the same time presenting an homage to blaxploitation tropes as well as referencing specific moments and scenes from movies of old, or if it's just going to be good old tongue in cheek kind of stuff.

This is the best. I would've preferred if it followed the style of the cartoon during the credits, but this will probably be great nonetheless.

Thanks for reminding me how much older I am Tom LOL! I met MJW when I was 17 going to comic conventions at the shrine auditorium.

Kinda figured the Afro Samurai guys were involved. Hopefully not with the script though. Also, kinda seems to be running away with a different theme than what made the movie great.

@ICYHOT Adult Swim tends to put up most of their shows on their website shortly after it aired. The same may apply for this one too.

This is quiet pleasing to read

When sushi becomes art as much as it is food, the art of presenting it on film becomes transformative not only to the cuisine, but the people who make it.
