Avengers 2 Gets A Release Date

Mark Your Calendars – May 1, 2015 – Avengers 2 – Be there.

Rumors have been rampant, but Marvel Studios finally confirmed that the sequel to the record breaking superhero movie, The Avengers will makes its way to theaters on May 1st, 2015. This will once again place it in a similar slot as the first film, which was released on May 4th of this year. With this date, The Avengers 2 will get a jump on all other Summer blockbusters and will hopefully secure it's place in the record books by the time any other summer tentpoles are released.

It was also announced last week that Joss Whedon will assemble The Avengers again as he has officially signed on to write and direct the sequel. I don't know if there was a doubt, but this was good news for everyone as it really was the Whedon charm that made the original such a great (and successful) movie. Whedon also signed an exclusive deal with Marvel Studios for film and television through the end of June 2015, which will include developing a live action series for Marvel Television at ABC and consultation on some of the other Marvel films.

We have a long way to go until 2015, but luckily Marvel will begin to wet our appetites with Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier (and Guardians of the Galaxy) in the meantime.

I hope I won't be burned out on superhero movies by then. Counting off the top of my head, there's already nine movies coming out between now and then.

Sooooo far away. I don't wanna wait!

This is actually sooner than I expected, at least it isn't a count down the requisite films and just days and years.

I was hoping for 2016 myself, allowing Edgar Wright to get Ant-Man in there, but really I'll take Avengers whenever I can get it.

@RockinKemosabe: Well let's see...

Man of Steel

The Wolverine

Iron Man 3

Thor: The Dark World

X-Men: Days of Future Past

Kick-Ass 2

Captain America: Winter Soldier

Ant-Man

Guardians of the Galaxy

Amazing Spider-Man 2

...Jesus christ, that's ten. I love superheroes. I do. But holy shit...

I'll be 23 then. Depressing.

WOW! We have three years to wait until 2015. I was not expecting it to be that long of a wait, but I'm happy that Joss Whedon is coming back for the sequel, and I'm looking forward to it.
