Decades after the original Cosby Show went off the air, and only 14 years after Cosby also went away, Bill Cosby is coming back to TV. Cosby and Cosby Show producer Tom Werner are teaming up for a new family comedy show that will star Cosby. Cosby will be the head of the family spanning a few generations that will mimic the themes and style of his other sitcoms.
If you don't remember the Cosby Show you should do yourself a favor and go back and watch it. Despite some occasional overbearing "sitcom special moments" the show treated characters and situations more like real life scenarios. Maybe the Huxtables were a bit too perfect but they also reflected an African American family that TV audiences weren't used to seeing. Mrs. Huxtable, played by Phylicia Rashad was a successful attorney and Mr. Huxtable was respected doctor. The lesser known Cosby show, just named Cosby, continued on Phylicia Rashad and Cosby as new characters but with similar themes of community and making fun of "kids these days".
As a life long lover of both shows I'm pretty excited to see a more positive family sitcom than the typical cliches we're handed most of the time. Hopefully Cosby still has it.
