I watched the first Captain America: The First Avenger on a 5 hour plane ride coming home from New York with one eye half open. I wasn't overwhelmed by the movie, but I do remember liking Chris Evans more than I expected, and feeling like that was a pretty solid casting choice.
Now on April 4, 2014 I will have a second chance to support the pro-American shield-wielding superhero as Walt Disney Studios announced the release date of the Captain America sequel. The sequel will pick up where Marvel's The Avengers leaves off, meaning that Mr. Rogers (no, not that one, the other one) will still be spending time with Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D.
I know that I really should give this franchise a better shot than it got on a tiny airplane screen, and I'm sure that by the time the sequel comes out I will be ready to commit to a theater grade viewing. Assuming, that is, that Marvel doesn't overexpose the Avengers franchises and extensions to exhaustion by then.

Marvel overload? Maybe this is why people aren't excited for Avengers.
Personally I'm very excited for all the incoming Marvel projects. I love the idea that the films are all connected and blah blah blah. It's a really cool idea and I'm very excited for The Avengers to see it all come to head. However, I will admit, despite being excited, I feel a little overwhelmed when they add dates to the future films. Let's just ease up a bit Marvel and see how The Avengers goes first.
Damn I kind of felt that the only thing it had going for it besides Chris Evans and Hugo Weaving was the WW2 setting.
It was just such a different atmosphere to other superhero films.
Plus what about Bucky Barnes as the Winter Soldier? I mean, c'mon, we know he didn't die in the film.
@rem25:
He could easily show up in Cap2, I don't think they could get the studio to film a Winter Soldier stand-alone
@Beomoose: I think it'd be weird to have him show up in a present-day story but I guess it could happen. I know the studio couldn't do a Winter Soldier stand-alone film. I'm still surprised sometimes that Captain America did as well as it did.
I like this world that Marvel has created for its films and enjoy the fact that they all connect with each other like comic books do. Count this ass to be in a seat for this when it comes out.
You should check out Captain Again on a bigger screen its actually a pretty good movie.
sounds about right for a Captain America sequel hopefully we get some modern Hydra trappings and of course the Winter Soldier.
I'm pretty excited about this as I really liked Captain America. Whatever the story is for the sequel, I'm sure Marvel will do it right.
I just hope that once Avengers makes them their boatload of money, they calm down a bit on the sell and just enjoy making these movies for us and seeing what other characters they can fool around with.

I agree. Really bad writing and completely uninteresting content.

I disagree. I really like the nonchalant tone and folks giving their raw opinions. Gods know, Alex and Rorie are opinionated dudes, so I'm thrilled to see that it's being carried on.
Of course, a little more opinions of the movies themselves, and less about personal lives would be nice, but I'm sure they'll settle into that soon enough. It's been less than a week people. Give 'em a chance!
I don't know how I feel about yet another Captain America film coming out. Will this one be a sequel to the first and a sequel to Avengers? How would that work? Will Iron Man or Hulk make an appearance?
Hopefully there is some grand plan (imagining a large map on a cork board) linking all these stories and making this the greatest series of comic book movies ever! That has to be happening....right?

That's my big question, too. If it's a sequel to the Avengers and features characters from that series, why not just call it Avengers 2? And if it is of a more standalone nature, how will they justify all of these characters splitting apart before coming back together again for the inevitable Avengers sequels? Then again, Marvel's plans for their franchises have proven to be as tight as they are ambitious so far, so I guess I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now.
I liked the first Capt. America film so I'm excited for the sequel. I'm just wondering what the story will be like seeing as he's in the present day now.
Why aren't they bringing back Joe Johnston?
I hope Winter Soldier is involved :)
why does no one see the easy date as July 4th. If you're picking a date 2 years away make it an easy to remember. I want more of these movies, so is there anything after avengers before captain america 2?
I'd rather have them make a film featuring a new character like Doctor Strange instead of a Captain America sequel. I wasn't thrilled with the film when I saw it but I did like it but a sequel without Joe Johnston directing doesn't really have me interested (And I just don't find Captain America to be the most interesting Avenger).
