Catfish Directors Will Make Paranormal Activity 3

Because they already know how to use handheld cameras.

Like this, but with murder ghosts.

After reminding everyone why dating people via the Internet is the worst possible idea on the planet in their maybe-documentary Catfish, filmmakers Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman have been tasked with taking the reins of the next installment of the Paranormal Activity horror franchise. It makes perfect sense, when you realize that Catfish was filmed almost entirely on cheap, handheld cameras, and Paranormal Activity movies are about annoying characters putting cheap, handheld cameras in strategic places to catch ghosts shaking chairs and killing annoying characters. It's like a match made in heaven!

The movie is already scheduled to release in October, meaning that, hey, maybe they should get going on this thing? Not that these movies are terribly complicated to make. Unless, of course, they want to just fall back on a plot about a ghost living inside of Facebook who tortures young, single men in New York with sexy photos and tantalizingly loving emails, only to shockingly turn out to be a fucking killer ghost. In that case, they've probably got this thing locked down.

While this is all well and good, I'm really looking forward to Paranormal Activity 4, as directed by Casey Affleck. I hear that one will be about the vengeful ghost of Casey Affleck's career.

I really thought Catfish was an interesting piece of work. It was a "documentary" that felt real but the content seemed to crazy to be real. But I would love to see what they do with paranormal activity since the last one , to me at least, was a dud.

Is there a definitive answer to whether Catfish was fake or real? Don't get me wrong I really enjoyed the movie. Just very curious.

God I hated Catfish, but I think mostly cause the trailer made me believe the ending would be all blood and guts or something equally creepy and the guy in it was so smug.

But hey, I hated PA2 so maybe they can pump some much needed hope into PA3

I really enjoyed Catfish for the ride it took you along for. I'm glad that they are getting people who are familiar with a "guided experience" film, because that's basically what these movies are.

I didn't catch the last film, but I plan on seeing it soon. I thought that the first one had a great concept, and I love the idea of an effective low-budget horror film. As a huge horror genre fan though, the film was always frustratingly just out of reach of greatness. There were so many points in that film, where my inner horror fan was screaming out "if you just did this, it would be fucking terrifying". So many perfect moments to scare the shit out of the audience, relentlessly. I still think there is room for a film to surpass this series for just brutal tension building and jump scares.

The original PA could have just been the modern Haunted House on the Hill. Minus the spooky skeletons, and "paramedics waiting" for people passing out from "PURE TERROR!"

I wish I had the time to make a horror film like they did. It would be just a little less douchey, and way fucking scarier. I mean by the end of the first one, who didn't want to see those people get got?

I think it was inspired by a real situation, and it ends there.

The second one felt too high budget for its own good. One of the characters even says " I love this new HD camera we conveniently just bought" I am of course exaggerating it a bit but things felt a little to convenient .

@GreatestEver99: Haha, it would probably have been an acceptable horror move if they really were that on the nose about it. At least then it could have got some laughs.

Hmm...weird move, I'm interested in seeing how it turns out.

I'm curious. The second caught me off guard with how good it actually was.

Those dudes can make a decent movie! I might actually watch this in theaters :)

I wonder if they'll insist PA3 is a documentary? It'd be about as close to it as Catfish was.

Slightly related: I have a friend who met a girl on Omegle. They "dated" for six months before "breaking up." They never met in person.

This basically sums up my feelings for the whole ordeal. I didn't like the first PA and I certainly didn't like the second, but I'm always willing to give a movie a go... Despite its rather paltry pedigree.

Dig Deeper into Paranormal Activity 3

The third film and prequel in the found-footage horror franchise. Flashback to where it all began with Katie and Kristi's first supernatural encounter 18 years before the horrific events that we saw unfolded.
