After multiple extensions and constant talks behind closed doors and bickering in public Time Warner and CBS were unable to come to an agreement today. This means for quite a few customers across the US they won't be getting any CBS stations including markets in huge population areas like Dallas, Los Angeles, and New York City.
The dispute is over fees that every network charges a cable company to allow their content to appear to cable customers. CBS was getting paid $1 per subscriber but wanted an increase to about $2. Time Warner thought the doubling of the fee was too much and wants to pay less. For Time Warner this effects a good chunk of their customer base while for CBS this only loses about 3% of their viewers. More than likely you'll see Time Warner cave and compromise way before CBS breaks a sweat.
Have any of you been directly affected? How long before either side "breaks"?
