Thursday was supposed to be opening day for Django Unchained in China, a newly discovered market by some studios that can often boost revenue more than the US or Europe can. We've seen studios already making changes to their films in hopes of catering to this new audience. Unfortunately for Sony Pictures their hit film was mysteriously pulled from Chinese theaters. No word just yet on why Chinese officials have pulled the movie sometimes minutes into the movie's opening night. Rumors of someone in the theater claiming to have technical problems after the movie had started and then leaving it at that.
Here is the source of the news from Deadline right here. They seem to think it might be due to some of the political commentary or nudity in the film. Or maybe the ruthless violence? Who knows?
