It is no secret out there that CNN, and other news networks, have been losing viewers while losing credibility during major news events. The combination of the radical Fox News on their right turning news into a flashy and heated debated and the increasing significance of the internet has left CNN wondering what they're doing wrong. That's what has led Jeff Zucker, current president of CNN, so constantly tinker and change the landscape of CNN only to watch each new show and host do no better, or sometimes worse, than the previous show.
Since coming to the network Zucker has been trying to change things and as he once put it, "broaden the definition of news". Now it seems those within the network who were resistant to Zucker's changes have changed their minds and are now ready to implement his ideas. Zucker said this means less newscasts and more shows with a focus for primetime and weekend shows. He went on to mention he was looking for "an attitude".
In my personal opinion this is a tragedy. I imagine running a 24/7 news network isn't easy and I'm sure there isn't an easy answer to the ratings problem. CNN hasn't been the place for news for years now. If you've had the chance to watch their breaking news coverage of most events it's more embarrassing than informative. I'd rather see a new focus on journalism to go along with this new "attitude" but it seems the lure of networks like Fox of MSNBC is too great for Zucker to give up.
