Never expected there to be this much news about comics-to-TV adaptations at once. I guess whatever ripples made by the success of the Walking Dead are finally bouncing back from the edge of the proverbial pond?
From Deadline, In short order…
- Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming’s comic, Powers, has just recently locked its two leads for a shoot in Chicago over the summer. Jason Patric and Lucy Punch will be playing the two leads of this series about cops working in a city where superheroes are matters of fact. Patric’s casting is actually more fitting that is apparent, at first, since his character, Christian Walker, was an immortal super hero who transitioned into wearing a badge.
- David Goyer is putting together a TV version of Brian Azzarello and Eduaro Risso’s 100 Bullets at Showtime. The award-winning crime comic has a sprawling narrative but, in simplest terms, it’s about random people getting a briefcase from a mysterious benefactor that contains a handgun and a hundred untraceable bullets. If you were given the shot to take out somebody you hate without any repercussions, would you take it? That's the hook.
- Locke & Key, an adaptation of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s comic, wasn’t ultimately picked up as a show this year. However, its publisher will be screening the pilot next month Comic Con with a subsequent Q&A sessions to give fans an opportunity to see what could’ve been. Though you’ll find plenty of unused pilots at the bootleg booths of conventions, this is the first time I’ve heard of such a program getting screened officially.

I was kind of hoping to see Kyle Chandler end up starring in Powers, but I guess he's off to the big screen now. I can't wait to see how this series turns out.
no news on chew?
I don't get the appeal of 100 Bullets.
"A guy pisses you off. If given the chance, would you shoot him in the face?"
What?! No, of course not!
I see the TV fit of 100 Bullets. It's got the perfect hook for a continuing series with its narrative, but I see them milking the hell out of it. The best part of the comic was when the stories got strung together and everything went "oh shit, for real?!". I hope they stick to the comics buildup.
100 bullets, i hope that turns out well.
Good lord I hope 100 Bullets is done right.
@Hawkeye: It was a bit more than just that. It's more like "hey, this is the guy who absolutely ruined your life, here's the evidence that proves it, and here's a gun with untraceable bullets which when found by the police will yield no investigation. If you want payback, it's entirely up to you." Beyond that it ends up being a labyrinthine narrative involving secret societies. It's a very well done noir comic in my opinion.
@Maury85: Huh. Okay, I guess I stepped out of line a bit. I'll have to actually check this out. Noir, when done right, can be one of my favorite things ever.
100 Bullets had 100 issues.Make them into 100 episodes.
That's 4 seasons of 25 episodes with an ending already set. It's a no-brainer.
That's the magic number for syndication too, isn't it?
100 bullets could be great
But who would play Graves though? I'd love somebody like Clint Eastwood but I don't think they'd ever get him, actually Patrick Stewart would be awesome too!
With Powers I worry that it could become too bogged down in the mythology which is what happened with the comics from time to time. I'd prefer it if we just got a police procedural about superheroes, I think that could be awesome.
That's a real bummer about LOCKE AND KEY not getting picked up.
Unless the TV adaptation completely screwed it up it should have been a great show.
I've never heard of any of these comics, but the premises sounds pretty interesting. Hopefully the shows turn out good.
100 bullets should be awesome. It's to simple to fuck up. And if the made a Preacher series or movie I would probably cream my pants!
