Comic-Con 2010: Full Avengers Casting Announcement

Biggest news of the Con by far drops at the last minute of Hall H!

While the biggest news of the day from Hall H might've been a dude getting stabbed in the eye because he wouldn't trade his seat (I still cannot get over the fact that that happened), the wonderful folks at Marvel decided to wait until the very end of the day for another bombshell: they brought out the full cast of their highly-anticipated The Avengers movie after running two awesome panels for Thor and Captain America. Here's the breakdown of who showed up:

So, yeah, that's something to get excited about. I really wonder how Marvel is structuring all of these deals to make this movie financially do-able; these are all pretty big names. But hey, it's awesome that they're managing to put it together. We shot a little video of the casting announcements, which we plan to have up shortly, so stay tuned!

Odds are the movie will be a mess (even with Whendon at the helm), but glad they signed Ruffalo and Renner - both great actors.
Etaberon July 24, 2010 at 9:07 p.m.
Jeez that's a lot of main characters in one movie. It could suffer from X-Men syndrome where some people will be pushed into the background. I wonder who the bad guy(s) will be?
SolidOceloton July 24, 2010 at 9:16 p.m.
Still bummed about Edward Norton, he was so damn perfect in as Bruce Banner, but Avengers looks like its going to kick some serious ass, Renner impresses me the most, i cant wait to see Hawkeye, such a comic book look, i wonder if their just gonna Ultimate all these guys up, and make them less cartoony, either way CANT WAIT !!!!

P.S. Hope Joss Whedon gets enough traction from this epic movie to make another Serenity movie, PLEASE
HassleInTheCastleon July 24, 2010 at 9:22 p.m.
Ok, ok. Im starting to believe this may turn into something amazing... Mark Ruffalo has the most to prove in my opinion. Hawkeye may already be my favorite simply cause of Jeremy Renner. But still, the whole Human Torch  as Captain America may be a biggest problem for me
MrMazzon July 24, 2010 at 9:24 p.m.
i approve lol this movie could be really big and awesome or really bad but i dont think they would let that happen.

i have begun patiently waiting for the footage from Thor Cap GL Suker Punch to leak
Olivawon July 24, 2010 at 9:32 p.m.
I too really wonder how they manage to fit so many big names into one film. They can't all be making their usual salary for this.

Still not a fan of Joss Whedon directing this, but that's just me.

I'm in different to every aspect of this but the casting choice for Nick Fury. Nick is an old white man, so why the fuck is Jackson playing the role? Jackson can't act to save his life, he only knows how to do Jackson and that is not the Nick Fury character. Yes I know they made nick black in some dumb spin off, but that's not Nick Fury as far as I'm concerned. To me this just stinks of them realizing that they needed a token black guy in a leading role so they threw the Nick Fury character under the proverbial bus just to cover their asses.
MrPinkon July 24, 2010 at 9:56 p.m.
Yes!  Hawkeye will show up.   I love the line-up already.  Hope to live long enough to see this one!
wreckson July 24, 2010 at 9:57 p.m.
I think Will Smith from tested.com might possibly be Joss Whedon's illegitimate son. He should ask for a supporting roll.

God I wish I could have been there.

...you know, except the 2 sets of Firefly comic books, the Wash one-shot that came out recently and the Shepard Book graphic novel coming out soon.

Also, if you have doubts about Whedon at the helm, check out this panel he did. He talks about his approach to the Avengers movie. Also, take note that every single person that he has met with recently to discuss the movie has come out of the meeting absolutely stoked for it.

That is a great cast.

Ruffalo's cool. It'll be interesting to see if Whedon can wrangle this cast into a satisfying film.

This is definitely going to be interesting to see how they pull this off if nothing else.

I adore Firefly, but I just don't understand the "bring back Firefly!" stuff. Have these people seen Serenity? The story has concluded. It was amazing while it lasted, for the short life that it had at least, but it's seriously done.

I got a weird "evil empire" vibe watching them all on stage. Hope it's good.
DeathByYetion July 25, 2010 at 12:16 a.m.
oh damn
this is excitement
ComicCrazyon July 25, 2010 at 12:53 a.m.

That was fantastic. This lineup for the Avengers is extremely exciting!!!!

Addition of Renner is awesome!  Here's to hoping they do make one of those possible marvel shorts to show what that man can do as Hawkeye
