Cougar Town, the show all about people who love getting sloshed on wine, started as an ABC near flop for three seasons. Then despite some fan support and love the show was going to be dropped and cancelled by ABC do to shrinking ratings. However TBS stepped in and wanted the under-appreciated comedy for their own. Put back on for a fourth season and with a big marketing blitz Cougar Town has seen a ratings increase within a younger audience and is TBS's top original prime time series in terms of ratings.
All that success was met with a fifth season request today as Cougar Town prepares to end their fourth season on April 9th. The move from one network to another, from network to cable, would normally be a death notice for any show and the fact that the show can move and thrive on another network is incredibly positive. Does this mean something like Community could possibly be moved networks and survive? Or do you think this is a one off phenomenon?
