It's hard to argue with del Toro's track record, so if anyone could do a good Van Helsing story (and there's no reason to think that it couldn't be done well), it might be him. Blade II was the best of that trilogy, so it's not like del Toro doesn't have experience with making vampires exciting. This is all still in rumorland, but it's an intriguing rumor, at least. I kind of hope they go for an older, brooding Van Helsing like Francis Ford Coppola did for Bram Stoker's Dracula. He might be a little short for the role, but seeing Christoph Waltz gallavanting across Europe and hunting vampires has a certain appeal to me.

Poor Del Toro. This guy must have enough money, because if did the Hobbit right, and you know he would have, he'd be able to make any movie he ever wanted. There are not a lot of directors who have that luxury no matter how good they are. Does he really want to do this? Part of me say I hope so, and another part says no. I wish he wasn't off the hobbit because the dialogue would have been perfect for him. If there is one problem I had with Del Toro is that sometimes the dialogue from some of the actors in his films came off cheesy or pushed. I believe this is because of the language barrior.
I really like The Devils Backbone by del toro. But I feel this would just turn out like mimic and be nothing special.
I also look forward to this, though I despise De Toro as a Director no one can deny he has a wonderful flair for creating worlds that dazzle, lets hope he pulls it off.
they were awesome.
Dracula's brides were actually one of my least favorite parts of it due to the horrible CG fakery that constantly stretched their faces in absurd ways. Hugh Jackman was alright though, but yeah, that movie was pretty bad. Not sure who thought this was a good idea, hope Del Toro spends his time on something more worthwhile.
As for Del Toro taking on Van Helsing. Its interesting, but I'd rather see him go and do something unique and different again. Pan's Labyrinth was a very good movie on multiple levels. It would be nice to see him attached to something smaller like that again instead of a bunch of big budget Hollywood flicks.
Although, now you have proposed the idea of Christoph Waltz as Helsing, anything other than that will be a crushing disappointment now. Way to go...
That's one nice pair of aspects.
Seeing as though Dracula re-boots seem to be coming into vogue Universla might push him into directing this. Although the one I'm really looking forward to is a project in development called THE LAST VOYAGE OF THE DEMETER. I read that script and it's terrific.
But yeah I wouldn't mind seeing a Del Toro directed take on Van Hellsing.
