According to an official press release from Ghost House Pictures, Bruce Campbell's recent ramblings about an Evil Dead remake are not simply the product of his overactive imagination, but cold, hard fact. The film has producers (including original director Sam Raimi), a director (Fede Alvarez), and even an additional writer: Juno and Jennifer's Body scribe Diablo Cody.
Yes, the blogger-turned-fake-stripper-turned-real-screenwriter has signed on to work on the latest draft of the existing screenplay, presumably because the existing screenplay lacked the desired amount of '80s pop-culture references and pithy portmanteaus.
This is in addition to Lamb of God, the film Diablo Cody is pegged to direct sometime in the near future, whenever she's finished writing this script and polishing her Oscar and whatever else Diablo Cody does since she stopped blogging for Entertainment Weekly. Whether or not her brand of hyperactive witticisms will make for a better Evil Dead remake remains to be seen, but considering we're going to get an Evil Dead remake whether we like it or not, you could certainly think of far worse hands to put it in.

God damn it...
"presumably because the existing screenplay lacked the desired amount of '80s pop-culture references and pithy portmanteaus."
I remember being in the theater seeing Juno and she straight up misquoted "thundercats - ho!" as "thundercats are go!"
Fuck no...
Well, United States of Tara was fun, guys...
Yeah, I know, it's still Diablo fucking Cody. Eh.
@ryanwho: Can't tell if you're serious or not... :\
Wow fuck this.
I don't like this at all.
Alright... Because we all know how Jennifer's Body turned out. I actually wasn't really phased by this when I first heard it because I thought it was fake. Now I am not happy.
@mbk337: To be fair, the director of Jennifer's Body also made Aeon Flux. It never had a chance.
I like Juno, but it could be down to Reitman's touch (LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Up in the Air) more than Cody's.
@onlineatron: Yeah, I really liked Up in the Air and Thank You for Smoking. I wish Jason and his dad Ivan Reitman collaborated to make this film instead. It would likely be a strange take on it (think Ghostbusters meets Up in the Air), but I just dislike Cody's style of writing.
As long as Raimi has his hand lodged firmly up the remake's spice hole, I'm good. I really liked Drag Me To Hell (despite being one of the few amongst my friends), that was essentially a new Evil Dead movie.
I really thought, or hoped, Jennifer's Body ruined her career. What a poor decision.
Didn't she try to write/rip-off the Evil Dead already? It was called Jennifer's Body and it was awful.
I rather have a sequel than a remake. If you had a choice, I'm pretty sure the majority would pick sequel.
