Disney announced today that The Good Dinosaur, an upcoming Pixar animated film, from its original release date of May 30, 2014 to November 24, 2015. A year and a half delay in total. This moves up Maleficent to that May 30th spot and removes all Pixar films from 2014 altogether. In part this move was made thanks to the recent departure of The Good Dinosaur's director Bob Peterson. Since then no replacement has been announced which doesn't bode well for that movie right now.
Also due to the delay of The Good Dinosaur, Finding Dory has been pushed from it's November 24, 2015 release to June 17, 2016. I assume this has to do with manpower and Pixar not being able to fully produce and work on two films at once. Pre-production is one thing but rendering two full length 3D animated films at one time can make the power bill jump I imagine.
This doesn't bode well for Pixar since some people would say they haven't been producing the same quality of films like they did in the late 90s and early 2000s. Don't feel too bad for Disney however. While this news and some other date swapping might seem like Disney is in trouble it doesn't say anything about how future movies will be or how well they'll do. Remember that only months ago Lone Ranger looked to be their biggest hit of the summer and Iron Man 3 was the not-so-big blockbuster surprise for them.
