In preparation for fall television there were several seasons of amazing shows released on DVD today. I will be doing a full run-down of fall premieres this week, to help you prioritize what to watch, so look out for that!
If you were one of the many many people that missed Battleship in theaters, then now is your chance to watch it – if you dare. It still rests at a cool 34% rotten, and I'm not sure that I even ever heard that it was worth watching on DVD, but perhaps there is something about spending $5 on a movie, instead of $15 that will make those big boats more desirable.
If you were one of the many people that surprisingly did see Steve Harvey's Think Like a Man in theaters, then now is your chance to watch it again. I have to say, I'm mildly curious what all the fuss was about and if it actually stands up as a funny movie. However, I don't know if I'm curious enough to actually spend my time watching it, but I'll consider it.
Ohhh, but what other movies do we have his week? The one featuring Zac Efron's biceps. Need I say more? I mean, come on people, do you see the way his 5 o'clock shadow glistens in the sunlight? It doesn't matter if the movie is actually good or makes any sense at all, it's that dreamy dreamboat that should reel you in. (No, didn't work? Okay, just watch Battleship then).
But wait, there's more! The Pirates! Band of Misfits.
DVD/Blu-Ray: August 28th
| 1. Battleship You might be more entertained if you actually just play the board game, which says a lot. | |
| 2. Think Like A Man A movie based around dating advice from Steve Harvey? Why does it feel like it would be a terrible idea to actually listen to what he says? | |
| 3. The Lucky One The movie based on a Nicholas Sparks movie has the very good chance of making you cry. What better movie to watch in the privacy of your own home, with some tissues. | |
| 4. The Pirates! Band of Misfits The new Aardman animated film about a group of misfit pirates and the guy who just wants to be pirate of the year. If you believe review (which I usually do) you should watch this immediately. | |
| 5. Headhunters Askel is Norway's most talented headhunter who steals art to subsidize his life of luxury. When he encounters a former mercenary in possession of an extremely valuable piece, he risks everything and gets tangled up in a big scary mess. Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) stars as the mercenary. Is Game of Thrones back yet? No? Okay, I'll watch this to tide me over. | |
| 6. Monsieur Lazhar It was nominated for Best Foreign Film at the Academy Awards this year and looks like a truly charming story. The story revolves around a substitute teacher in Montreal, who is from Algeria, and changes the lives of many children in his classroom. | |
| 7. Sons of Anarchy - Season Four SAMCRO!! The fourth season of the dark drama surrounding the Sons of Anarchy motorcycle club and the town of Charming. If you haven't caught up yet…do. It's amazing. | |
| 8. The Walking Dead - Season 2 The second season of the aftermath of the zombie apocalypse as Rick and team search for a new home. Season 3 begins in October, so get prepared by watching for the first time…or all over again. | |
| 9. Homeland - Season 1 One of the most successful new shows of last year, for anyone who doesn't have Showtime – here is your chance to catch the first season of the thriller. | |
| 10. Boardwalk Empire - Season 2 Nucky Thompson is back and badder than ever in the prohibition era drama. | |
| 11. Once Upon a Time - Season 1 The half reality/half fantasy fairytale drama revolves around the timeless battle of good vs. evil. |

Battleship, Pirates, and Homeland. Good week well except I'm hoping Battleship is the so bad it's good thing.
I walked into my local Best Buy to pick up Walking Dead today and I did not see Battleship anywhere on their new releases shelf. I celebrated on the inside.
I really should go back and watch the finale to S4 of SOA. I was rather perturbed at the ending. Wonder if I still dislike it.
you know your movie is bad when the tie-in video game is better.
@RockinKemosabe: honestly, it is really fun. it is from the director of The Rundown (you probably know that already) and it is that kind of entertaining: silly, ridiculous, but very enjoyable.
