I'll never forget the moment I first saw a Bourne film. It was an exhilirating experience to watch a new action franchise being born mostly because it was just damned good. The best part about the Matt Damon Bourne films is that each one was better than the last. The saddest part about The Bourne Legacy is that it didn't seem to continue this trend. While it might have been good, it didn't necessarily improve on the previous one or even stand up to one of them. In fact, I didn't even bother to go see it in theaters, but I was there opening day for the Damon films. That isn't to say that it isn't a good movie, there just was definitely something lost in the appeal of the new film. However, I'm happy that it is now out on home video, because it is definitely one I will check out in that format.
Another DVD released today happens to be one of my favorite films of the year so far - Ted. Notice I didn't say best, but favorite. Sometimes you just want to laugh at a movie and Ted delivers there. The story of John (Mark Wahlberg) and his dirty, alcoholic drug snorting cherished teddy bear is endearing and hilarious. I know a lot of people might not like Seth MacFarlane's humor, but I think they can just go watch Ice Age or something.
Otherwise, there aren't many releases this week, but at least these are big ones.
| 1. The Bourne Legacy "There never was just one." They pulled off a successful marketing campaign and it actually made sense why there would be another entry in the Jason Bourne films. However, they forget one part….no one else can be Jason Bourne! | |
| 2. Ted Fuck you earthquakes, I mean, thunder. Thanks to this movie I know have an earthquake buddy and that is not a joke. (Hi sissy!) | |
| 3. Ice Age: Continental Drift The latest Ice Age film also hit its franchise slump, but hey, if you are looking for some non-holiday fare for the family, it's all cute and cuddly and ice age-y and we might want to start preparing for another one of those. | |
| 4. Girls - The Complete First Season I hate watched the first season and now I am actually looking forward to the second season so something must have happened along the way that made me really like it. Good luck with that. | |
| 5. Dick Tracy - Blu-Ray The Warren Beatty directed, Warren Beatty starring Dick Tracy film is now available on Blu-Ray. Watching this at age 10 for the first time, Mumbles gave me nightmares but maybe it's time to face that fear. Maaaaybe. | |
| 6. Following - Blu-Ray Christopher Nolan's first feature film debut is now available on Blu-Ray. It was remastered from the original 16mm print and sounds like it looks very incredible. |

I'm not sure how I feel about Ted anymore. I saw it in theaters and I remember not liking it so much but after seeing some commercials for the DVD release kinda makes me remember it more fondly.
bad week for DVDS. I'm just waiting for next week's release of TOTAL RECALL. I'm annoyed I didn't get a chance to see it in theatres.
