I feel a little bit sad about movies this time of year. It takes awhile for big releases to make their ways back into theaters and the DVD releases are still those from the October slumps. However, there are a few good possibilities this week. The third season of Archer being one of them and depending on your recent opinions of Tim Burton, Frankenweenie could be the other. Otherwise, have fun perusing the list of other things you probably didn't know even existed.
| 1. Dredd His name is Dredd. Judge Dredd and he is the law. The "remake" of the original Sly Stallone Judge Dredd actually turned out to be one of the rare remakes that is worth watching. Shocking and exciting. | |
| 2. Frankenweenie The feature length animated redeaux of Tim Burton's Frankenweenie has been controversial. Some people love it. Some people have gotten off the Burton train and can't get back on. I don't know which one I am as I have yet to check it out. However, it will be going on my queue immediately. | |
| 3. House at the End of the Street Jennifer Lawrence is the new darling Hollywood young starlet and deservedly so after her performances in Silver Linings Playbook and The Hunger Games. But....even the best make missteps sometimes. | |
| 4. Hit & Run Perhaps the best thing about this movie is the relationship between Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell that blossomed during filming and provided videos like this? Actually, I don't even know if this is where they met, but it looks so awful, I have to believe some good came out of it. | |
| 5. Stolen Nicolas Cage was in a movie named Stolen? Am I the only one that has never heard of it? Simon West directs Senor Cage in this movie about a master thief who must find his daughter after she is stolen (get it?!) and locked in the trunk of a car. | |
| 6. Samsara The worst part about Samsura being on DVD is, it is probably a film that should be experienced in a theater. However, with stunning visuals it creates and an incredible sensory experience it is still something that should not be missed – even if on a small screen. | |
| 7. Compliance A good little indie thriller that could definitely go on the "not much else to watch" list. | |
| 8. Touchback Just watch Friday Night Lights or Rudy for a better football movie. | |
| 9. Archer This show is one of the best comedy series on-air right now and it is damned funny. Sex, alcohol and espionage in animated form. What could be better? | |
| 10. Anger Management You have been counting down the minutes until Charlie Sheen's tiger blood was available on DVD, right? | |
| 11. The Hour Has anybody watched The Hour? Is it worth the time? I love me some McNulty and am wondering if it lives up to the hype of his brilliance? |

Calling Dredd a remake isn't exactly right, does it a bit of a disservice. It's a completely different take on the Dredd comic book source material.
It's pretty awesome.

It really is. Normally I can't stand Karl Urban as an actor but it turns out all you have to do is put a giant metal bin over his head an it all works out. I probably will buy Dredd on Blu-Ray because it was one of the few movies where I actually thought the 3D was pretty damn cool.

Fair enough. I put some "quotes" on it.

AWESOME.
Judge Dredd has such an awesome fictional universe, the fact that the Sly Stallone movie (unintentional genius though it is) is the most ubiquitous example is tragic! Tragic I say!
(go see dredd, people)
Man I wish Dredd did better at the box office. I would have liked to see those planned sequels.
Finally I can get Dredd in BluRay and it will look very pretty.

Using Dredd 3D and remake in the same sentence that isn't preceded by, "is not in any sense of the word," is downright insulting to the quality of Dredd 3D. That movie is a goddamn revelation and it deserves at least a little more credit on it's own beside, "kinda sorta remake?"

It is a kinda sorta remake though, because inspired from the same source material that inspired the first movie, and the comic is so obscure in america that the first point of call for the brain is that first movie.
That Dredd is in a whole other league of quality has nothing to do with that classification. If anything, it gives it more credit, because the odds were stacked so against it.
Yesterday, I rented Stolen and the blu-ray version of Total Recall (2012). I plan to watch Stolen tonight, because I do like Nicolas Cage.
Also, I feel really compelled to buy Dredd, because I really enjoyed seeing it at the Theater.
Dredd is one of the best movies I've ever seen. I really haven't had something that satisfying, fun, and grim to watch in a while.
Such a soulcrusher to see it hasn't even broken even yet. Please buy it!
Unboxed "Dredd" DVD just now. Loads of Featurettes! :)
