Well, this is interesting. This week it also seems as if the studios are just as afraid of releasing anything good on DVD close to The Dark Knight Rises as there is really nothing fantastic released either. The best option looks like Friends with Kids which is an ensemble comedy that actually puts a new spin on parenting, relationships and RomComs. With Jon Hamm, Kristen Wiig, Adam Scott, Chris O'Dowd and Maya Rudolph, sign me up.
In other news, The Three Stooges and Lockout were also released this week. When it comes to DVD, I think I might just prefer to watch the original Stooges, but perhaps it might be worth checking out what they did. Lockout, is screaming to be a rental, but I still am not convinced not it is even worth that.
DVD/Blu-Ray July 17th
| 1. The Three Stooges It ended up making $44 million in the theaters, which was probably way more than a lot of people expected. Now it will be interesting to see how the re-booted version of Larry, Curly and Moe fair on DVD. Nyuk Nyuk Nyuk. | |
| 2. Lockout Space + Guy Pearce + Maggie Grace + Kidnapping should be great, right? Then you realize there is all premise, no story, and no logic and it just falls apart. Sad. | |
| 3. Casa De Mi Padre Will Ferrell made a Spanish language film and that is not a joke. | |
| 4. Salmon Fishing in the Yemen I think this is one of the only films that could make fly fishing interesting. Interwoven with a love story, Britain's leading fisheries expert (Ewan McGregor) is approached by a consultant (Emily Blunt) to realize a sheikh's vision of bringing fly fishing to the desert of Yemen. It sounds absurd, but ends up being charming. | |
| 5. Friends with Kids I think we know how this is going to end, but looks like an original, fun way to get there and with that cast, I'm willing to put in any time necessary. | |
| 6. Intruders Clive Owen, what are you doing?!? | |
| 7. Singin' in the Rain Blu-Ray For the first time on high definition blu-ray, this musical is one of the best of the genre, and will have you bouncing around and singing in no time. It's a classic that stands up to this day. | |
| 8. Sanctuary The Complete Fourth Season The Canadian sci-fi show that was brought to television after being a successful web series. The show centers around Dr. Helen Magnus, who is a 157-year old teratologist and her team of experts who run the Sanctuary which is an organization that seeks out extraordinarily powerful creatures and people, known as Abnormals. |

Pfft. I liked Lockout. Good pop corn flick with Guy Pearce being guy pearce.
I thought The Three Stooges was hilarious, as well as Ted. Slapstick is my favorite type of comedy, and this one had loads of it. Plus, the three actors did a nice job of impersonating the original trio.
I want to see Casa De Mi Padre, because I think Will Ferrell is a funny guy. Lockout could be interesting, too, so I'll rent that.
I've been wanting to see Friends with Kids due to the cast and Casa De Mi Padre is another movie that was there and gone before I got around to it. But yea it's all about TDKR at this point.

Friends with Kids had a great start and phenomenal acting, but it fizzles out half-way through. It is no Bridesmaids.
I thought Casa de mi Padre was pretty funny, though it has a limited audience. It is all based on the joke that it is a bad movie and the filmmakers don't know it (except they really do), but it does it really well. There are running gags like obvious matte paintings and camera crews being seen in the reflections on windows and sunglasses.
So that's why I've been buiyng lots of oldies on DVD these days..nothing new good~
