I think as we are entering a great summer in theaters, we are starting to feel the dismal-ness of the time for DVD/Blu-Ray releases that are, well, kind of in a slump. There are a few that could be really great, but nothing that I am just dying to watch. Coriolanus is supposed to be great, and if it stands up to the trailer, definitely should be. We Need to Talk about Kevin is probably worth watching, if for nothing more than the acting, but otherwise, I think I will be sticking to my current TV marathon.
DVD/Blu-Ray
| 1. Gone A thriller in which a girl thinks a serial killer has abducted her sister. She then embarks on a chase to find the killer, but I think unless you have a real thing for Amanda Seyfried, you would be better to watch something else…anything else. | |
| 2. Goon Was surprised at how positive the reviews for this film are. Didn't expect it, but seems like Seann William Scott shines in this movie about a guy who becomes the underdog when he just wants to be a hockey player. If it's anything like Rudy, count me in. | |
| 3. Coriolanus Re-imagination of one of Shakespeare's lesser known works with Ralph Fiennes, Gerard Butler, Vanessa Redgrave and some hardcore grittiness and violence. I would say, yes please. | |
| 4. Man on a Ledge An interesting concept for another thriller, action crime, but just doesn't deliver. Was really only worth a DVD watch, and I'm not even sure if even that is worth it. | |
| 5. We Need to Talk About Kevin There was much talk about an Academy Award nomination for Tilda Swinton in this film, and while she was snubbed, it is worth it just to see her phenomenal performance. An intense psychological thriller about the relationship between a mother and a son, and nature vs. nurture when he becomes truly evil. | |
| 6. True Blood Season Four In preparation of Season Five that begins airing on HBO on June 10th. Catch up now or start sucking blood for the first time. | |
| 7. Dragon Age: Dawn of the Seeker I must admit I don't know much about this show, but I suspect there will be some people that are pretty pumped for this. | |
| 8. Rookie Blue Season Two The third season has already started airing on ABC, but in case you need to catch up, Season two is now available. | |
| 9. Shiki Parts 1 and 2 on Blu-Ray I really need to brush up on my anime knowledge, but another, I suspect, many will be excited for. | |
| 10. Maverick Season 1 Maverick starred James Garner as a wise-cracking ladies man. If you are a fan of classic TV Westerns you should add this to your collection. |

I have a thing for Amanda Seyfried (if you saw the dreadful Chloe you know what I mean ;P) but it won't convince me to see Gone.
Honestly, I'm gonna watch Goon, it'd be nice to see a hockey movie and because I'm Canadian and a hockey fan, I'm sort of obligated to see it. But it comes at a strange and controversial time in hockey with these "goon" players. I think fights and checks are a part of the game and removing them would be crazy but I think it's also gotten out of hand. Some of those hits are absolutely brutal.
Goon is great, A really likeable movie about a pretty brutal (and exaggerated) role as an enforcer. The best hockey movie since Slapshot. Or maybe The Mighty Ducks. I don't know.
Props to you for bringing up Shiki. I recommend it for anyone that's into shows with vampires in them (plus, the story's very good). I also liked Goon, since seeing it was more fun than I expected.
Can't wait to get Coriolanus from Netflix
@fuzzay: Awesome! i'm pumped!
There is very little action in Coriolanus but Ralph Fiennes performance in it is absolutely amazing.
@fuzzay: 2 weeks ago I put all 3 Mighty Duck films on my Queue, mostly to see the bash brothers, but also the young Joshua Jackson, it is still so strange how far he has come, I thought one week was amazing! But mostly when i saw him in Cursed!
@Mr_skeleton: thats pretty much what i thought would happen
Man on a ledge wasn't terrible..But it wasn't good either. Everything else here is terrible. Maybe not Cor..I dunno.
You cannot get me to watch We Need To Talk About Kevin, though. I read the book that it's based on and I, personally, found it to be the exact same schlocky crazed-killer-who's-always-had-something-wrong-since-childhood bullsh*t I've experienced in fictional media a hundred times over. With an added dollup of mother-feeling-sorry-for-herself on the side. Of course, it's been a few years since I read the book, but I remember hating it with a passion. I also found it preachy but, again, that's just me.

in three years :(
Goon actually intrigues me, and I'm tempted to rent it. I also, was surprised by all of the positive reviews for it, too.
I'll definitely rent Coriolanus, if only to see two great actors in the same movie together. It doesn't really sound like it's an action movie, but it does look intense.
I've already seen Man on a Ledge, and I have to say, it was one of the best movies I saw in the first few months of the year. I don't know if it deserves to be in a top ten list, but it was a very entertaining movie.
I also saw Gone. It was fairly suspenseful, and decent, but that's about it.
I don't think I can watch We need to talk about Kevin. It sounds way too depressing.
So, yes, Goon and Coriolanus for me.
