Of all the many movies I need to get around to seeing, Rush was one I forgot I needed to see. No one can see every film released in an entire year but Rush clearly was one of those I should have watched. I'm usually never impressed by a Ron Howard films until I finally see them. Maybe it's his choice of subjects, maybe it's the trailers, who knows. I do eventually see them and enjoy them so I don't know why I still fight them so much.
One of the sleeper hits of 2013 that didn't get a lot of attention, possibly thanks to being released right before awards season went into full swing. Directed by Ron Howard, I'm kind of surprised that we didn't see this one trotted out for the Oscars and Golden Globes. I guess F1 drivers just don't get respect here in the states.
2. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2
Though not received with the warmth that the first one was this is still a solid family animated film. Without something like Frozen, or even the Croods, this might have been one of the bigger end of the year releases for families.
3. Last Vegas
Nothing screams baby boomer audience more than aging actors, acting their ages, and trying their best to keep up with modern times. I bet this film had modern cellphone jokes, an inability to drink like they used to, and something to do with strippers not impressing these, possibly impotent, old men.
4. Bad Grandpa
A Jackass production doesn't interest me like it used to. Somewhere around Jackass 2.5 I decided farting into tubes and hurting your friends wasn't something I really wanted to pay to watch. Bad Grandpa at least had a new idea behind the a more traditional formula and that audiences really seemed to like.
5. Downton Abbey
Season 4 is now out for a show I've decided to stay away from. I'm on a one addictive show at a time diet and between the shows, films, and video games I need to get around to enjoying adding yet another show to it just wouldn't be fair.
