Expendables 2 Plot A Bittersweet Love Letter To Mickey Rourke?

This time, it's personal.

But who will tattoo my back when you're gone, Tool?
But who will tattoo my back when you're gone, Tool?

Anybody else raise their eyebrow a little about the name of Mickey Rourke’s character in the Expendables? Tool? Really? Stallone usually tries hard to be hip to the times, but I guess he somehow missed all the, shall we say, negative implications that come with calling somebody a tool in 2010.

I bring that up because weapons-making, tattoo-inking, chopper-driving Mr. Tool will have a smaller-but-more-significant role in the Expendables 2. Nu Image/Millenium has just released an official synopsis for the flick that thusly reads…

“The Expendables are back and this time it's personal! After Tool (Mickey Rourke), the heart and soul of the Expendables, is brutally murdered on a mission, his comrades swear to avenge him. They're not the only ones who want blood. Tool’s beautiful young and wild daughter Fiona embarks on her own revenge mission, complicating matters when she is captured and ransomed by a ruthless dictator plotting to destroy a resistance movement. Now Barney and the Expendables must risk everything to save her and humanity.”

Given the news about Van Damme angling to play a villainous enforcer in this second macho outing, I suspect his character will likely be doing the dirty work of the ruthless dictator described above. Or maybe he’ll be working for another mercenary intermediary (Willis? Schwarzenegger?) and make this sequel’s plot even closer to that of the original?

Casting speculation for a role in an Expendables sequel will unlikely ever garner as much enthusiasm and discussion as even the smallest supporting role in a comics movie typically does. Still, I'll put the question out - - who would you Screened Heads want playing Fiona and offsetting all the testeterone?

They’d have to rewrite the part some, but we all know that Cynthia Rothrock is the only suitable choice.

Joking aside, I really have to agree. I would enjoy it if they put a female action star in it regardless and not just some "oh she's hot shit right now, lets cast her:" that they usually do with action films.
Also I felt Mickey Rourke actually put one of the better performances in The Expendables considering his character had a small role.

I say go for the Commando callback and make it Alyssa Milano.

Emma Stone, just for Rorie

Another dictator and another resistance group? And they have to save the whole of humanity? You know I didn't think the first one was that great. It meandered all over the place and the drama was bad and not in an ironic action movie way I mean it was just bad. There was more of a build up to action than actual action.

Eva Mendez as Fiona maybe? Although they might go younger and get Alba to "act" in it. Actually going with fighters in movies how about Gina Carano? It doesn't matter if she can act if she can actually kick people alongside Statham. Yeah I will go with Carano.

Sarah Michelle Gellar

Alyssa Milano, Eliza Dushku or Mary Elizabeth Winstead are all fine choices since they've played the kidnapped daughters of Arnie, Arnie and Bruce Willis respectively in action movies.

Am I the only one that thought the Expendables was pretty... bad? Not even particularly enjoyable in a campy way.

I don't even care. I will watch whatever movie they put in front of me.

It's EXPENDABLES 2 for god's sake.

Uma Thurman is the right age to play a daughter of Mickey Rourke. He's in his 50s, she's in her 30s. Plus, she has a proven that she can kick ass.

I will watch anything that has Terry Crews in it. Period.

This sounds like an awesome 80's-90's arcade game story. I'm on board already.

Lolz @ Cynthia Rothrock. I love you guys so hard. I also love that at l least one other person acknowledged the mention of Cynthia Rothrock.

I love you, too, drscott.

The Cynthia Rothrock mention was brilliant. I'm sure she still looks pretty good. Better than Rourke does, anyway.

How about they go real obscure and get Richard Norton. He and Rothrock made a whole bunch of movies together. He's still in great shape and his fighting would certainly be better to watch onscreen than creaky old Chuck Norris or fat-ass Steven Seagal.

im guessing there going to go with zoe saldana for the role 'cause this is her type of movie

id really like to see rachel weisz take the job.  saldana would be good, though.

kind of a pity to see rourke leave the expendables.  the first one felt like a build up to an awesome action flick with him.

Fiona = Amber Heard

Isn't the bigger question whether Milo will return to play Stallone's son again?
Pokeysteveon May 12, 2011 at 8:55 p.m.
I'm worried about this being another Rambo. An otherwise awesome movie spoiled and ruined by endless rape scenes. The first Expendables was fun and they did a great job.

One tip for the next one, don't CG the blood and gore again. I want real spatter.

They should cast Gabrielle Anwar and make it a crossover with Burn Notice, if only to have Bruce Campbell in The Expendables.

Dig Deeper into Cynthia Rothrock

The 'Queen of Martial Arts Films', the diminutive Cynthia Rothrock went on to conquer both Hong Kong and Hollywood with a string of successful action films during the 80's and 90's.
