Fox Meeting With Duncan Jones About Wolverine!

20th Century Fox will meet with Duncan Jones to discuss Wolverine.

I couldn't even imagine how epic it must be to have Ziggy Stardust as your father.

Losing Darren Aronofsky was a major blow for Wolverine, but it appears the franchise is trying to rebound in a big way. 20 Century Fox has a meeting with Duncan Jones to discuss the possibility of the young director taking on Wolverine as his next project. And, this is more than just some Internet rumor, as Empire confirmed the meeting with Duncan himself. Here’s a quote that Jones gave to IGN:

"[Wolverine is] more interesting to me than Batman. A good Wolverine film could be an amazing thing."

Now, before we get too carried away, Jones is still very keen on working on his own material, most likely in the form of Mute. Mute, of course is the Blade Runner homage the director has been talking about doing for quite some time now. Still, if Fox can nab Jones that would be a major boost to a franchise that needs a strong filmmaker to step in and fill Aronofsky’s shoes. And I’m sure Jackman is pressing the studio to find a strong director to helm the project, because he is so committed to the role. He has repeatedly said the script by Christopher McQuarrie is fantastic and that he would be keeping his workout regimen up to keep his signature look for the film ready to go.

I absolutely loved Moon and was a fan of Source Code despite it not ending when it should have. Needless to say, I think Jones would be a great fit for this one. I guess we’ll just have to wait to see if he thinks the same.

Please just do some more good sci-fi Mr. Bowie.

I'm pretty sick of superheroes and I do not want to wait 4 years for another Duncan Jones science fiction movie while he does Wolveriene inbetween.

I predict this movie will change hands between Scorsese, Spielberg and Hitchcock's reanimated corpse before it actually sees the light of day.

I wouldn't mind a good Wolverine movie. My only concern is that Duncan Jones has never directed an intense action movie before, it would be interested to see how he handles the action scenes.

I've experienced two movies written by McQuarrie, which were both fantastic of course.  When I found out Aronofsky was off the project was the same time I found out McQuarrie did the script, so I was a little bummed, but then immediately psyched again.  So yeah it just needs a good director like Jones to not fuck with this man's powerful words.

He's right a good Wolverine film can be an amazing thing. Hopefully the movie turns out be good and does justice to the character.

You know what would be rad? If David Bowie was Wolverine. You know what would be even radder? If the soundtrack for this movie was just The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars. You know what would be the raddest? If Major Tom was Wolverine's nemesis.

Does anyone else think that Duncan Jones always looks completely high?

Edit: Also this might be a great opportunity for Duncan Jones to both get his name out there and get studios more confident in financing his projects.

I can't say that I would find being named "Zowie Bowie" particularly epic. He did say that having Bowie as a father was pretty regular, but I don't believe that for a second.

Wolverine 2: We really want an indie/artsy director to do this guys.

Am I the only one who thinks Darren Aronofsky stepping down from Wolverine a good thing? I don't want to see a depressing comic book movie.
Xpgamer7on April 11, 2011 at 5:50 p.m.
I've seen so much news on this that I'm really just waiting for the release regardless.
munocardon April 11, 2011 at 7:17 p.m.
Just a heads up though. Jones tweeted this just days  after Aronofsky was announced to be off the project saying "no".  http://twitter.com/#!/ManMadeMoon/status/48761924103581696

hmm... now there is a director I wouldnt mind picking up the film... good on Fox for doing that.
Lydian_Selon April 12, 2011 at 2:23 a.m.
While I'd rather see Jones commit his time & talent to an original project, my expectations for the Wolverine movie went so high when Aronofsky was on board that I'm kinda glad they're considering talented directors to take his place.
