Game Of Thrones 15-Minute Preview!

HBO releases extended look at their upcoming fantasy epic miniseries.

Hey, you want 15 minutes of Game Of Thrones as a preview for HBO's upcoming series? Here you go! I'm not going to pretend I know much about Game, since I only finished about half of the first book, but I know that it's all the rage on that Twitter and the Facebook and those Geocities you kids are always talking about. Let us know if you're a fan of the books in the comments, and whether the footage above meets your expectations.

I don't know a single thing about this series but the show looks like pure quality.
ReyGitanoon April 4, 2011 at 12:16 a.m.
I think we're missing the real news here guys; I didn't know geocities still existed.
ThePaleKingon April 4, 2011 at 12:19 a.m.
They will always exist, in our hearts.

Judging from this snippet, good things are coming down the pipeline.  Love how much time they dedicated to that first prologue chapter and the creepy, creepy shit therein.  A tad worried that folks will see the first ten minutes and not think the show is for them, though.  Horror nastiness is such a tiny part of the books.  But damn if it isn't effective in a visual medium.

So they added the little scene with the bow practise, I hope that means they feel they have enough time to not leave anything from the book out.

It looks very good and very in tone with the books. Though for the sake of nitpicking, I thought showing Ned behead the oathbreaker was too violent for my taste. It was perfectly fine for the white walkers to do so because they are evil savages. But now they are on equal footing with the good guys in terms of onscreen violence.
I would have thought it more effective if the beheading were offscreen and instead you would see Bran's face- his reaction to what his father did. It would have fit a lot better with Jon telling him beforehand not to look away and Ned asking Bran after if he knew, why he did what he did.

@Greenshoes: I think the bow scene pretty much replaces a ton of prose explaining Arya's character.  I expect them to do a lot of this and is pretty much a necessity given the crazy amount of information and detail the books give outside of dialogue.

Just from the warning screen at the beginning you know this show is going to be awesome. My Kindle comes in four days (in time for my bday) I'm going to load this and the Wheel of Time on to it and get lost for a couple hours.

Looks pretty good. Hopefully they can keep it going.

@Korg:  I agree that this must have been added to explain her character and it works.

It looks solid, those 15 minutes flew by

I liked the cinematography. And that girl/doll/creature thing was pretty creepy, I'd say.

The children supposed to be younger. If i remember right

I really enjoyed this snippet.

My only fear is that they'll rely on CGI too much. The landscape environments look fantastic, but the CGI backdrops (going through the wall) look very low-rent.
onlineatronon April 4, 2011 at 3:28 a.m.
@Greenshoes: The bow scene didn't seem like excess at all (if you're implying it is, if not ignore this!).

I haven't read the books, so for me it effortlessly summed up the relationship between the boy and the girl, and their given skills.
Greenshoeson April 4, 2011 at 3:45 a.m.
@Korg: I was not talking about how the scene further explains Aryas character, merely hoping that the scene would not be made instead of something else further down the line, which often happens in adaptations.

Though now that you mention it, I think it might have been better to introduce the Starks with the beheading, and maybe have a similar scene later.

I've had the first three books of the series sat on my shelf like forever. Should get on that really.

Just got my Kindle and started to re-read the entire series on it. It's a great piece of hardware for book-reading. You will not be disappointed. :)
Also, ignore the negative critic on Amazon of the GRRM collection; it has chapter select and such, which the comments complain it doesn't.

Big fan of the books, it's probably my favorite series. The HBO show was your typical HBO show, which is to say great production value and overall kick ass. I'm pretty much can't wait  to see the premier!
HeadNodShyon April 4, 2011 at 5:12 a.m.
Anyone else can't get the video to load? I've tried 2 computers on 3 different browsers. No luck.

Region lock maybe?

Can't wait to watch this, also for all the other fans the next book finally has a release date.
