Sounds like a case of “he said, they said” here. THR’s noted that Ricky Gervais has claimed in a scrapbook-style blog that he’s already been asked to host the Golden Globes again. In his words…
"The ratings were up again and the organizers asked me to consider a third year. I don't think I should. I don't know what I could do better. I certainly couldn't get more press for them, that's for sure."
But the head of the Hollywood Foreign Press responded pretty snappily, saying this to THR…
"There is no truth to this rumor. We have not asked him to come back. Nice try, Ricky."
Maybe they changed their minds after the backlash. Maybe he’s doing a bit of embellishin’ and self-promotin’. I would say it’s certainly in the Golden Globes’ interest to bring him back as a host. Whether or not he crossed lines of decorum and offended some stars, his turn got people talking about the show - - more than anybody really has in who-knows-how-many years.
Perhaps they’re fearing what a triply-emboldened Gervais might do in his third go, as he claims in the very same blog that he'd originally wanted to come out to the stage at the beginning of the show dressed as Hitler for some dig against Mel Gibson. I'm really not a fan of this guy's schtick, but I wouldn't have watched the Golden Globes anyway, so there you go...

Hmmm. May have gotten me to watch the State of the Union Address if I knew there was gonna be a little Gervais behind Obama instead of a sleepy Biden.
"so the republicans, right? bunch of cunts"
*end of broadcast*
I'd agree with you, but it was pretty clear he had more interest in being a dick than in actually being funny (even if some of his targets deserved it) . Comedy is supposed to make you laugh, not make you wonder who stabbed the guy's dog. I usually like Gervais' stuff, too...
This.
I really liked Extras I wish he would get on and make something like that again. His talents lie in making 6 good half hours of television per year, and he should go back to it.
