Gervais has been Asked to Host the Golden Globes Again... Or Has He?!!?!

Some dispute about whether an offer's actually been made.

Just like Eric Bischoff said... controversy creates cash.
Just like Eric Bischoff said... controversy creates cash.

Sounds like a case of “he said, they said” here. THR’s noted that Ricky Gervais has claimed in a scrapbook-style blog that he’s already been asked to host the Golden Globes again.  In his words…

"The ratings were up again and the organizers asked me to consider a third year. I don't think I should. I don't know what I could do better. I certainly couldn't get more press for them, that's for sure."

But the head of the Hollywood Foreign Press responded pretty snappily, saying this to THR

"There is no truth to this rumor. We have not asked him to come back. Nice try, Ricky."

Maybe they changed their minds after the backlash. Maybe he’s doing a bit of embellishin’ and self-promotin’. I would say it’s certainly in the Golden Globes’ interest to bring him back as a host. Whether or not he crossed lines of decorum and offended some stars, his turn got people talking about the show - - more than anybody really has in who-knows-how-many years.

Perhaps they’re fearing what a triply-emboldened Gervais might do in his third go, as he claims in the very same blog that he'd originally wanted to come out to the stage at the beginning of the show dressed as Hitler for some dig against Mel Gibson. I'm really not a fan of this guy's schtick, but I wouldn't have watched the Golden Globes anyway, so there you go...

MORE RICKY

Ratings aren't measured by the contentness of thinned skinned starlets. What's more, people who take the Golden Globes seriously deserve to be made fun of.

Either way I prolly wont be watching them, but it would be nice to watch another highlight real the next day of awesome insults against the rich and famous.

I am a huge fan of what he did at the Golden Globes.  HUGE FAN.

I think he was great! Anyone who is offended needs to cool their damn jets. It's COMEDY for fucks sake.

Hmmm.  May have gotten me to watch the State of the Union Address if I knew there was gonna be a little Gervais behind Obama instead of a sleepy Biden.

If he doesn't host, I won't DVR the program and scrub passed every commercial/hackneyed presentation to watch Ricky. I hope they can live without my "ratings"

They better let him host because hell he is funny and the only reason i actually watched the show

I'd agree with you, but it was pretty clear he had more interest in being a dick than in actually being funny (even if some of his targets deserved it) . Comedy is supposed to make you laugh, not make you wonder who stabbed the guy's dog. I usually like Gervais' stuff, too...

Perhaps what he wrote in his blog was a joke? And hollywood didn't get the joke... that's sort of the ongoing theme there :P

I will watch anything Gervais is in (which backfired when I watched The invention of lyign.. ugh). He is genius, The only people who don't like what he does are the people who "don't get it"

I watched all of his bits from the Golden Globes this year and thought they were pretty funny, really funny by awards-show-host standards. I wouldn't mind seeing him host the show again but I can understand why he would hesitate. On an unrelated note, did Ricky lose some serious weight or is that picture photoshopped to Hell?

It's insult comedy. If he's got an idiot act on, then what does Jimmy Carr have? Even Jim Jeffries pales so the things Carr says - to people at his shows in particular. If Carr did gigs at places that served alcohol he would have died years and years ago from brutal beatings.

He hurt my feelings... I cried in my lemo going to the after party.

I didn't mind him at the Golden Globes, but it wasn't particularly great.

I really liked Extras I wish he would get on and make something like that again. His talents lie in making 6 good half hours of television per year, and he should go back to it.
