Ghostbusters, Goonies and Gremlins: Gallery 1988 Has a 3G Plan for the Rest of Us

The venerable G1988 teams with Philly's The Autumn Society to deliver an epic '80s art show.

I'm always reluctant to say (in a non-hyperbolic way, at least) that any place, person or thing is "The Best"--kinda backs one into an ideological corner. That being said, Los Angeles' Gallery 1988 is The Best art space. Ever. Well, let me clarify that it's the best art space for people like we movie lovers, because the place is popping up on my radar more than any other art gallery thanks to the Crazy4Cult show and seems to be the go-to place for installations that draw from the bottomless well of pop culture.

This time /Film's Peter Sciretta has posted about a team-up between Gallery 1988 and The Autumn Society, an association of Philadelphia-based artists, to create "The 3G Show," a celebration of Ghostbusters, Goonies and Gremlins. The showing opens September 3 and runs for a few weeks until the 22, so if you live in the LA area there's no excuse for you not to go (7020 Melrose, Los Angeles), brag to me about it and cause a grown man to clutch a stuffed rabbit, crying.

P.S.: I made a Gallery 1988 page to accompany this since, damn it, they deserve one.

Wow, I still have a cute Gizmo doll in my closet from when I was a kid. Now I'm afraid it will come and kill me in my sleep.

Yes! Another great show at 1988! They have had the 8-bit art show there a few times. Can't wait to go!

Many of these would be beautiful candidates for a desktop wallpaper.

When sushi becomes art as much as it is food, the art of presenting it on film becomes transformative not only to the cuisine, but the people who make it.
