'Girls' and 'Veep' Both Picked up for a Second Season.

HBO declares a win for girl power Sunday.

It seems rare that HBO launches a show that doesn't do well enough to get picked up for a second season, and it looks as though their recent female-centric comedies are no exception as they just announced that both Girls and Veep will return for at least one more 10 episode season. Because of the multiple airings of a show by HBO each week, it is a bit harder to judge the ratings, but in two airings Veep is faring a bit better as it is at 3.7 million gross viewers and Girls is at 3.8 million (with one extra airing).

This move is not unexpected - especially with Veep carrying the star power of Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and the fact its debut ratings were up 34% from Eastbound and Down (who previously owned the time-slot). Girls was one of the most talked about series to air for a long time, and whether or not that is reflected in the ratings, it has already become part of the cultural lexicon.

I thoroughly enjoyed the pilot episode of Veep and am looking forward to more, especially as the cast melds together and finds their footing, as usually happens with comedies. Girls on the other hand, I know is an important show to watch at least once, but I can't get over the fact that the show repeatedly makes me feel awkward and I want to cringe and turn away from the screen. I know that sometimes that can be a good thing, but in this case, it just makes me want to reach for the remote.

Can't say I have an opinion on "Girls" (never looked interesting to me, so I never watched), but Veep has been pretty great thus far so I'm all for a second season.

Waaaaay more proud of Veep for getting a second season. I checked out "Girls" for two episodes and it wasn't that good to me. Veep kept me entertained, however.

Girls is stupid pretentious bullshit.

Great news, Veep has been great so far.

Girls I'm rather meh on so far.

Which is interesting because I feel the complete opposite of your opinion but agree if we were talking about Veep. It's really the star power guiding that show and all of the people sitting at home who think they know about politics who enjoy all of the witty banter on that show.

Dig Deeper into Veep

Veep centers on former Senator Selina Meyer who finds being Vice President of the United States is nothing like she expected and everything everyone ever warned about.
